So my friend who plays the game has some pretty horrendous friends on his list. I'm talking, people with like 400 atk / 300 mag, bartz and chizu stuff going on.

The units he owns are Noctis, Tidus, Zargabaath, Fohlen, Gilgamesh and he's got ~some~ tmr.

550,475,052 - Luceo. Yes he has the Zargabaath bonus unit up though it's not on his priority list to spend mats on, he's focusing on other units so it's just a bonus fluff for those who can carry it.

Grats!! Marie is my #1 most-wanted unit. Wilhelm is a little underwhelming if you have WoL but he's still badass in his own right. Either way, double rainbow w00t

I have Tillith and I haven't put her in over Refia yet; though my team is built around Refia. If I were to do Tillith, I can't just switch them, I'd have to redo my whole team.

I'd need a new buffer, because Tillith's 2 turn buff is just too short

About to start playing this game. Would it be worth it to reroll for a good unit and if so. Which should I look out for?

Yes, reroll if you have the patience for it. I'd probably shoot for Orlandu were I starting fresh, while hoping you'd get a Cecil and Zidane for an Excalibur and Dual Wield. Gilgamesh could replace Zidane, but you'd need to be hella lucky to get 2 good 5*.

Rerolling is purely optional as I believe the key is just to be active and wait to accrue units.

But what you would want to reroll for depends on what you value as a unit.

5* units
1) A strong pure offense: Aileen/Orlandu/Olive/Fryevia
2) A good all-rounder: Noctis
3) Strong support unit: Ramza/Zargabaath
4) Good new player unit but poor shelf life: Luneth/Lightning (I don't recommend this for a reroller though, you're MUCH better off getting Noctis than these two)
5) Tank dude: Wilhelm (however I feel that you can get by just fine with a Warrior of Light so ymmv)

Highly rated 4* units
1) Warrior of Light: Excellent tank that just gets better. If you don't get him you'll have to use one of the other tanks that is far from being his level.
2) Rikku: She's on the banner, she introduces cheese that even a new player can take advantage of.
3) Refia/Luka: unfortunately Yshtola isn't available at the moment but a temporary stopgap healer if you need would be one of these two.
4) Chizuru/Setzer: Chainer units, you'll come to understand these in time. You can go pretty far with chain units + a strong friend
5) Snow: He's got plenty of uses in case you lack a lot of the above and with some work he can shine.

However the pool of units is really large and its hard for me to completely list all of the units that are useful.

You should 100% take the time to reroll. Given that the ffx banner is up right now, I would personally reroll until I landed Tidus or Orlandu + Rikku.

The chance to see a 5* base unit is 1% and rerolling is the only way to guarantee yourself at least one. Some people went the full year of playing and never saw one until the anniversary banner where they guaranteed one.

Disagree entirely, it would be silly not to reroll at this point to start with one really good 5* base. You can't accrue those 5* bases easily unless you have your luck and they're much better than the alternatives.

Can disagree all you want. Some people just want to play the game and don't need all the gamebreaking meta. A lot of the units are overkill.
If you're the type of person who wants to play with overkill, then rerolling is a must.
If you're okay with having just good units, rerolling until you see a good hand is fine as well.
But if you're fine with taking things as you come I don't think you "have to reroll" or you won't have fun. Game gives out plenty of tickets and lapis to pull as you go.


Edit: I just realized the 5000 lapis - 1 Anniversary celebration is going on. I'd make sure to try to get that as well. Very few 5* are absolute trash.
Idk how fast you can make 5k lapis in the game... well, it's at least something to consider doing.
