As long as it keeps the castle mission chain that teaches people the importance of multiple save files. Fuck you Wiegraf.

12 year old ag lost his entire run on that fight had to start the game anew
the only game that's ever happened to me with is Lunar 2, got to Zophar WAY too underleveled, with like no healing items, and you can't leave, so I had to start the game over to finish it lol, young Drai was cocky and played his RPG's loose cause honestly most of them could be beaten without much prep
Hey man, PS1 memory card slots were precious.
I mean the entire gameplay needs a complete overhaul. Not because you can break the game, but because the only way to unlock things in a timely manor is to abuse spells that you can use with either no target or one that targets an ally. It's not fun, it makes half the jobs in the game useless and severely limits what subjobs you can actually take for 90% of the game. If they get rid of per action exp and jp and rebalance the terrible jobs it's all gravy. Also get rid of the hidden mechanics like zodiac shit and make make progression actually make sense, instead of the maybe 1/6 of the time you get a PA or MA level. I'd also like an actual good localization for once, between the OG that reads like it was machine learning, or whatever the fuck that abomination was in WOTL we need something up to todays standards. It's insane how much better the TO localization was even for the psp versions. Why did FFT get the short straw with the remasters, do it right this time.
I like the bad translations attacks have in the og version. It gives the game a weird charm.
The PSX remaster of Ogre Battle is top tier, but there is something to be said for the charm of the SNES version where late in the game the translations completely break down and in some cases you get blank text bubbles, like they deleted the original text but didn't bother to stick in the translated dialogue instead.
That's the one, fuck that level.
I'm playing Unicorn Overlord now and I keep finding myself envisioning FFT with that art style. Some of the characters almost feel ripped out of it like the sellsword females with the poofy sleeves. I know that look isn't unique to FFT, but it still hits those nostalgia buttons.
I remember being far too unknowledgeable of the deeper tactics involved with FFT at that age. My friend and I got a gameshark (or equivalent, I forget what the cheat one was for PSX) and had invincibility for first play through. I remember we'd get so pissed when the sword stab sword saint ability would get used and insta kill us. We thought it was the cheat bugging out.
The only thing about WotL that can get scrapped in a remake is enemy units equipped with Maintenance. Not being able to steal the complete Genji set off of Marquis Elmdore makes the entire game unplayable.
Koji Fox has an infamous story about when they were trying to get FFXIV: A Realm Reborn ESRB certified for PS3 and the ESRB requires review of *every* line of dialogue, and they knew submitting every line for an MMO would be nigh impossible so the build they submitted to the ESRB has every character saying “Thal’s balls!”. That way they could get their Teen rating.
An FFT remake just needs updated visuals, MAYBE voice acting, maybe take WotL cutscenes a step above or just add more of them. 4k visuals, more particle effects, streamline the job system to require maybe 10 hours less of grinding, etc.
I don't want the ff7r treatment, I just want an isometric tactics game that looks like it's simple but also probably couldn't run on a PS3, maybe even PS4.

They also need to add back in the dialogue for spells and summons that would randomly pop up.
They removed that in WotL???
That's the great translations I was talking about
Tactics is a tough one for me. I really enjoyed it at the point and time I played it, but I feel like not to the extent that some others did? But I really enjoyed the lore/history of Ivalice. I even enjoyed the GBA versions, both of 'em.
Regarding a remaster or remake, I'd like a version of the game that explored or expanded on the lore of that particular era; was always bummed that the other Ivalice games didn't dig in further to that same time period.
I think the best way to describe FFT is that it is a game that manages to be amazing despite the fact that like 75% of it is objectively bad. It's just that the bones of the job system and the story are so good that everyone just ignores the bad shit. Ideally a remake would fix a lot the problems, but I think people will still have a hissy fit if they do cause they want the same old game again even though the old one hasn't gone anywhere. It's really depressing how little attention FFT has got from the developers post release. WOTL was the laziest remaster ever. All it got was a new script that was awkward as all hell and somehow not a big improvement on the laughably bad OG script, one character from A2, and two new jobs that required so much grinding that you never actually unlocked them unless you were grinding like crazy. The game actually looked and ran worse than the original it was terrible port with minimal content. The funniest part was the slowdown was literally hard coded in the game somehow, it wasn't a psp couldn't handle the graphics type thing, cause it happened with the Roms of the game. Meanwhile Tactics Ogre got completely remade from the ground up and it was an improvement in almost every conceivable way. Then they basically did it again with Reborn.
I'd be content if it was just a visual do-over in the style of those WotL cutscenes (which adhered to Akihiko's style pretty damn well), and perhaps some voice acting along with it. That and an option to speed up the combat like the Disgaea series has been allowing for ages. I don't need to see a 5 second wind-up for every nuke. FFT feels so fucking slow after playing basically any other modern game of that style.
I wouldn't be the one to ask for opinions on how to make the gameplay itself better, without taking away from the original's quirks, like the team did with that Tactics Ogre remaster though.
I just hope they don't "remake" or "remaster" it the way they did all those FF games for mobile and later PC.
idk how Pixel Remaster is, but those early version were ugly as sin.
