They could have given us great choreography for the knights vs. Ben fight, but they couldnt even be bothered to spend 2min of screen time on that.

The only saving grace is we saw so very very little of Asian chick who defeats people with the power of love. So glad she got relegated to side crew duty for this.

Eh, it was ok. Liked it more than i thought i would, but i felt like a lot of the scenes were rushed, the characters are expositing to the audience not to each other in parts, and the emotional payoffs they were going for weren't earned. It's fun if you turn your brain off and try not to think about the myriad of plotholes and story points that were just hand waved.

This movie was an amazing ride. My thoughts:

1. The first 35-45 minutes were literally an entire 2nd mini movie that they had no way around, cuz of Rian Johnson's blunders. It was cut-after-cut-after-cut which is a huge no-no in movie making, but whatever. I know why they did it and glad they got through it quickly. An added 20-25 minutes to the movie to let it breathe early would have been nice.

2. It so obviously retconned TLJ. And one of Luke's direct lines you could tell was Mark Hamill's idea entirely. That smirk....was a beast. The entire trilogy, including this movie, would have been much better if several plot points in this movie were introduced within the first hour of TLJ. TLJ fans will hate this, and I love it.

3. This movie felt like Star Wars. It had some moments that took your breathe away or made you choke up. Not just one, but several. I left the theater with energy.

4. A handful of Rey's final lines of dialogue were absolute perfection.

5. The humor hit well and wasn't forced garbage like in TLJ. Wasn't much of it and it came from the right places (C-3P0 etc).

6. The newly introduced characters were actually a hit, which was a huge step up from TLJ. I love Babu Frick (sp?) and Zori. Most of the other chick's story was cut in post production.

Bravo JJ. That was about as well as it could go in 2.5 hours given the circumstances. Like The Force Awakens, I'll be seeing this many times in theater.

Let me add something: Ren and Rey are perfectly cast. Daisy Ridley has mastered the art of speaking without moving her lips. Her eyes and "open mouth" stare tell the viewer literally every word she is thinking and every feeling she has inside her without movement. She is a powerful actress and was the perfect casting opposite Adam Driver. JJ did an extremely good job of highlighting this attribute of hers in this film.

If there was true intent to bring Palpatine back the entire time, which... I kind of believe there was then Rian Johnson absolutely fails at the most foundational part of making a movie which is simply telling the story. TLJ, story wise is hands down the worst of all 9 movies in that regard.

Fuck the hamfisted redemption. I wanted Supreme Leader Kylo Ren as the final boss

Kylo would have been a cool final villain, but he would never have been believable or fit the role after TLJ. Adam Driver was told his characters arc before filming started on TFA, by JJ.

I don’t believe they were sold on Palpatine when TFA was written, but JJ 100% wrote it open enough to allow for Palpatine to be introduced. Snoke looked the way he did for a reason. All you have to do is look at the TFA art book to see evidence of Palpatine or someone other than Snoke being the true villain behind-the-scenes. The Death Star wreckage was originally in the first script of TFA. The ring from Mustafar was on Snoke for a reason etc. etc. etc.

Rian Johnson just entirely, woefully failed to continue the storyline that was so clearly set up. He nosedived this arc himself and Kennedy should be canned for allowing it.
