For those of you wondering why so many BGers have negative associations with "cis" and similar terminology, the above image was our introduction to it. so... yeah.
I've said it before, but I still feel like most people (at least those who browse random shit on the internet) had their first introduction to 'cis' in the phrase 'cis scum.' I know for me it has had a negative connotation from day 1, the same goes for anyone else I've talked to about it. I'm sure there are those here who don't fit that bill, but from what I've seen they are few and far between.
I think "theoretical" or "kritik" language that gets imported outside of the classroom is usually far more destructive to conversations than not.
The terminology exists to define very discrete and complicated concepts; they are meant to be used in academic papers and books where the analysis is so in-depth that you need to develop a specific vocabulary to address the issue. But when people take this vocabulary outside the academic setting, no one else knows what you're talking about. And sometimes it ends up coming off as arrogant and haughty.
In the worst cases, the people who using the specialized language just get frustrated at others because they aren't speaking their lingo and aren't conforming to discussion on an internet forum as if it was a WAGs course.
yo i have to admit i had no idea what "cis" was till Celeste and the violence against the lgbt thread , that thread was 10/10 laughs on an absurd level. That being said it does leave to wonder wtf has these posters freaking out so much I wish the secret underground inner "non cis" circle of posters would rise up and educate the masses cuz it was mentioned time and again about there being more then the hey\ niiro\ celeste?
Just putting my hat in the, "Didn't really know about cis..." ring until I had a bunch of people jump on me elsewhere for not being against the creation of new and accepted words. Said it before, but I stayed out of the topic because I saw the storm brewing before the initial lock. If anything, it made me feel better not being "scum" all by my lonesome when recalling those past events. Socially, I'll just go back to treating people like people until they prove themselves dicks. Actual dicks not a requirement.
Wasn't that the same thread where people were boycotting chic-fil-a? Thread was just full of wut. No idea what the fuck "cis" was until that thread and all the SJW's spamming it since then.
Personally have never liked how "cis" sounded and even though I'm sure its not intended, it feels like its used more as some kind of insulting label rather than an actual scientific term. Like being a "Cis white male" makes one the devil. Its probably because those same people actually do beleive cis white men are the center of evil.
The word sucks.
cis sounds like a shortened form of sissy
cis sounds like a prefix, which it is. Can I call homosexuals homo and get away with it? Sounds just as negative doesn't it?
A very simple question:
If people aren't contributing to a discussion, and instead choose to cherry pick and bite information to spread discourse and keep a circlejerk going, why aren't they punished?
Reason I ask is because the shitbait and fuckery that goes on is being perpetuated by a mod and their supporters, and I want to know who mods the mods.
Thanks.
Because you are perpetuating the conversation by refusing to acknowledge that just because it is legal doesn't mean it is the right course of action and continuing to assert that it was not the cops' fault? Then you get flippant and make comments about killing someone who is attacking you with a paperclip. Do you see how ridiculous that is? Do you see why people are jumping all over you?
I don't see any problems with the entire exchange except for the last few posts before you bowed out. Smart move there. That was the point at which the shit was about to start.
Wasn't asking you since you're not BG staff, so keep it to yourself.
Salty. If you cannot accept that you created and are contributing to the problem that you are complaining about then I don't have anything else to say.
Either leave or have a real conversation with the willing and ignore the posters that you view as problematic.
As an impartial third party (but also not a mod), I can't help but notice that mods also have a dorito at the bottom of their posts. If something is happening that you feel is contrary to the rules of the discussion here then why not report them? I'm pretty sure mods cannot in good faith act upon reports against themselves, and since all mods of that section get the reports (from how I understand things work), there would be no way to hide it or sweep it under the rug.
I mean this is just a thought.
I could. I try not to (and have never) report anyone and expect the mods to do their job. However, I have noticed some users get ignored or a mod will ignore another who's perpetuating a circlejerk, yet I or another user will get called out for the same behavior. I guess the ultimate question is, are people playing fair?
