But things like what Karb said are why I'm both confused and concerned. What is to stop someone from coming in and saying "Look Jews are just money hungry k#!&* here's some racist videos it's just my opinion" repeatedly without actually engaging in good faith conversation?

It's not okay to say "wow, you're a racist idiot" or "wow you ought to shut up, this is very clearly dumb" or are you just saying you can't cross the line into "you're a sack of shit"?

Because I frequently have this problem with some "Trump supporters". Their "opinion" is validated because it isn't invalidated. The supposition that we should ignore stupidity after repeated attempts at discussion and deliberation because it's an opinion when it isn't even reasonably formed seems absurd.

Edit: and literally I have yet to experience the "shutting down conservatives" bullshit that the few posters here who complain are trying to peddle. BG may be mostly liberal folks, but discussions are typically filled with opportunity for education and informative dialogue.

Refusing to engage with that just because it conflicts with a delusional world view is the opposite of being suppressed. It's dissonance.

Again the issue is moderating it neutrally. The unpopular opinion will be subject to more scrutiny and likely incur more moderation. Again, look at the 75 cap discussions. Collectively my word count is more than EVERYONE who has posted against me combined. But do you expect every poster that has an unpopular opinion to go to those lengths to prove good faith?

I mean Groggle was the closest thing we had to that, knowingly and willfully advocating for gender roles and racial tribalism as a way for everyone to be happier.

1. Ksandra hit Fiye, I didn't. I personally would probably have let Fiye get away with it too given the proportion of questionable to non-questionable content in the post as I pointed it out. However there was in fact flaming so her decision is not wrong, simply not the one I would have made. It's not about enforcing the rules sporadically, it's about all of us having different lines for when behavior becomes out of line. I am by far the most hands-off -- I'm only responsible for day being exiled. I voted no for milkster, d44, and Nynja.

2. guartz doesn't flame back. D44 slings mud mostly at people who are firing shots at him. And that's in one single thread in the XI forum, otherwise he is in SPAM.

Fiye being given a timeout doesn’t bother me. Just a way of telling the person they need to cool their jets. There’s more than one mod here, people aren’t perfect and/or have different thresholds as Gredival pointed out. Managing people is tough, I don’t feel that the mods overstepped here. If it was a permaban I’d be singing a different tune, but a quick hey you need to take a breather is fine.

That being said I do feel that Guartz is trolling. That’s what I was alluding to when saying he jumped the shark with his, “If Trump was there instead of Adam with Eve we’d still be in Eden” post. To me, he showed his hand there.
