Pretty much. In what amounts to he-said-she-said, the only defense you have against accusations that literally cannot be proven false is to discredit the accuser.

It's the Donald Sterling media effect. Everyone who paid attention knew he was a gigantic racist slumlord. No one cared one whit about it until the media seized on it.

In the same way, there have been allegations against Cosby for a long time, it just finally caught fire with some intense media focus. Now he's got a high-powered lawyer pouring on the heat, and all of the internet whipped into a frenzy.
