Draper • Minutes before he was shot to death by police, Jeffrey R. Nielson sat calmly on the curb in handcuffs, smoking a cigarette an officer had lit for him.

It was a cold Wednesday morning in the Draper neighborhood where a West Valley City policeman, who was on his way to work, had spotted Nielson slumped over the wheel of an SUV. Nielson and three officers who also arrived, spoke calmly to one another, without a heated word, as the officers investigated him for an alleged narcotics violation.

But after more than 20 minutes, civility turned to violence in an instant. As officers remove Nielson's handcuffs to swap them with a different pair, Nielson ran to his SUV. The officers grappled with him, trying to pull him out — but within seconds, one officer saw Nielson had a knife and shot him five times.

Think it was mentioned before, maybe not in this thread, but another police thread.

It only redefines and concretes what the expectation is for rules of forfeiture. It doesn't really change business as usual, as the majority of seizures were in commission of a crime. Without a crime, there's no more seizing of cash and assets just because of mere suspicion or quantity of assets. Now, it needs to be clearly defined as a seizure in commission of a crime or suspected proceeds of crime while committing x-offense.

I've seen it both personally and on any number of those bullshit Cops shows/highlight reels. I don't even live in the deep south and I've probably seen 5 different occasions where some hot-blooded honky is allowed to blow off to cops and make threatening gestures.

Last May, an armed Michigan man had a standoff with the police as he stood in front of a Dairy Queen waving a loaded rifle around and angrily shouting. When cops arrived, the man, Joseph Houseman, refused to identify himself, grabbed his crotch, flipped the bird, and cursed them out. Houseman was intoxicated and didn’t have an ID. For 40 minutes, the police tried to get the belligerent man to put his weapon down. All the while, he was screaming, “The revolution is coming,” and accusing the cops of being a “gang." He told the police he had a legal right to "threaten" police officers and their families.

In August, a San Diego man got out of his parked car with a loaded 9mm pistol and proceeded to point it at police officers and small children who were playing in a local park. The police proceeded to spend the next hour trying to talk the man, Lance Tamayo, into putting down his weapon.

As terrified children were forced to hide in the bathroom, Tamayo rushed toward the officers with his weapon pointed at them and at a police helicopter flying overhead.

Eventually, an officer shot Tamayo once in the stomach to put him down. He fell to the ground, but his gun remained within reach. The police then called Tamayo on his cell phone and spoke with him for 15 minutes before he agreed to surrender. He was arrested and charged with exhibiting a firearm in the presence of peace officers.

why he wasnt shot instantly for pointing a gun at cops and children ,
why they didn't unload on his ass after shooting him?
why he was simply charged with exhibiting a firearm in the presence of peace officers.

In both videos numerous laws were broken and threats made , in the second video the weapons pointed @ civilians yet apparently at no point did the cops feel threatened enough for GOOD SHOOT.

Yet anytime one of the videos of the black guys getting gunned down its "resisted arrest, good shoot".

So if its not a Black v White thing what is it? because its nothing to do with if your breaking a law that's for sure. Obviously its not threatening the police... so do tell.

Different officers respond differently. Do you think after roll call the sergeant reminds them not to shoot the white ones? Try a google of white suspect shot, or black suspect not shot.

This is why I groaned about Bum dragging race back into it. Back to the topic of statistics, anyone here with 5 minutes of free time or an interest to do so can post as many links as they want to make their position sound better. But then again, i got lambasted for saying using common sense instead of being a jack ass will significantly decrease the odds of you getting shot, as well as mentioned that my parents are both cops and taught me to never point a toy gun at someone and was told that not everyone has cops as parents to teach kids that. But then again I've also stated many times I would love to see crooked cops get taken off the streets, agreed it was BS that the new york cops who choked the guy out and killed him didn't get arrested but since i'm not standing on a chair screaming how it's all racist and decide to wait till all information is released before giving an opinion, i'm a contributor to the problem.

Example one: subject never made an overt action to threaten the officers on scene, and the officers are probably trained better to deal with open carry people in this situation.

Example two: SWAT and ERT arrived on scene and dealt with the subject just like any other. Once the subject pointed the weapon at the officers, they shot him. Subjects actions at the time of the incident. He was in the car threatening himself, they talked to him, once he made a move, he was shot.

Don't take these incidents out of context. I can Google just as many incidents where a black person isn't shot and taken in to custody for even more egregious behavior.

Well, considering blacks made up about 100 deaths by Law Enforcement, of the 700 or so killings by Law Enforcement in the US, that puts the chances even lower.
