REPORT: "Suicide Squad" Undergoing Major Reshoots To Increase Humor

If new reports pan out, it looks like Warner Bros. may be targeting "Suicide Squad" to lighten to tone of the growing DC movie-verse. Devin Faraci at BirthMoviesDeath has reportedly heard from a number of unnamed sources close to the film who have confirmed that "Suicide Squad" is undergoing reshoots right now that are specifically designed to add more humor to the film and lighten its tone.

The update comes after BMD's previous talk with another unnamed source who said that despite having a trailer packed with jokes and edited to Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody," the film itself wasn't actually that funny. "Every joke in the movie is in that trailer," said the unnamed source. Following the positive response to that "Squad" trailer (72% of CBR readers called it "Amazing!"), Warner Bros. has reportedly called for big reshoots -- "tens of millions of dollars big," according to BMD -- to alter the film to be more in line with the trailer.

BMD posits that this may bode well for the future of the DC movie-verse, considering that "Batman v Superman's" gritty tone was one of the chief criticisms of the film. Production has also begun on "Justice League," which producer Deborah Snyder has clarified will have a lighter tone than "Batman v Superman."

Directed by David Ayer and starring Jared Leto, Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney and more, "Suicide Squad" opens on August 5.

You mean the trailer that tries to frame the movie as being the DC equivalent of Guardians of the Galaxy? Because that was my impression. A darker, more serious GOTG.

By cosigning to reshoots it's all but clear that DC/WB isn't confident that whatever grimdark movie they finished is going to be good enough to stand on its own. Great, because the last thing we need is DC acting like SEGA. Let's hope the touch up work doesn't spoil the portrait.

If any of the other paintings they finished are any indication, it would have sucked anyways.
