While the divide between the DCEU and critics remains strong, it seems that Warner Bros. is quite pleased with how the film fared this weekend. “It bested anything that we could have expected,” said Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros. distribution executive Vice President. “The marketing campaign was brilliant and the performances by the cast, starting with Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Jared Leto, were just extraordinary. They’re fun and wicked and fans enjoy it.”

Just came back from watching it. Opinions and spoilers in spoiler tags for anyone who cares

    Spoiler: show
I had heard something about the people who ended up editing the film being the same group that did the 2nd trailer with Bohemian Rhapsody. Given how jarring some of the edits were, I'd believe that rumour. It was really, really bad. I mean, the jarring cuts resulting in sporadic movement would work for a 30sec~1min long trailer when you're editing a bunch of disjointed scenes to make 1 promotional piece, but when characters go from being seated to suddenly standing and far apart to suddenly face to face and etc, etc, that shit is just straight up awful editing. No excuses. And bringing in hit song after hit song after hit song after hit song was just fucking annoying. They were obviously trying to get the audience amped up and really into it but it just pulled me out of the movie. It just seemed really forced and shoved down the viewers throats.

Storywise the premise was pretty decent. The execution wasn't so much. Setting up Enchantress as the villain could have been handled a lot better I think. I mean, when she went rogue, I was sitting there asking myself why she just didn't go rogue sooner. Or why when she was freed from her jar-seal thing, why didn't she just go for her heart then and free her brother then? Cara Delevingne was okay as an actress. I just didn't feel any sort of impact from her performance. Maybe it was her constant belly dancing when she transformed that threw me off, I dunno. But the doode as her brother was pretty dope. Really menacing and villainous and his face-off with Diablo at the end was rad. And the segment of the two of them taking over the city and the government gathering the squad could have been edited a hell of a lot better. It went from night to day to night to day so quickly. And not in a way that made you think "oh, time is passing", but in more of simple jumping locations kind of way. But still being in the US and still being (assuming here) relatively close to each other made the cuts just sort of confusing to watch.

Honestly, how Enchantress went rogue and Waller getting permission to form the group should have been done differently IMHO. And when Enchantress started wreaking havoc, they should have sent in a normal group of soldiers to try and take care of her and her brother only to watch them get turned into those mindless minions. And then decided to bring in the squad and have Waller be all "I told you so" and shit. But than her being trapped in the city would have had to be re-worked I guess. I suppose I'm just saying I don't like how it was setup and I'm sure it could have been done in a much more cohesive and interesting way.

Will Smith was fucking dope. Real good. He gets his usual "Will Smith" style jokes in but when he needed to ground and humanize his character, he was rock solid. Easily the brightest spot of the movie for me. Margot Robbie was good too. I'm not a diehard fan of the comics so I can't go in-depth with the Harley/Joker shit, but she was entertaining as Harley for me. I did notice like 2 or 3 very VERY subtle occasions where her accent dropped and her normal Aussie accent came out. But honestly, if you don't know what to listen for and don't really take that much interest in dialects/accents like I do, I really doubt you'd notice. But I found it funny anyway.

I'm probably going to get crucified for this but I just didn't care for Leto's Joker. I didn't think it was good. His focus and connection just seemed all over the place and it just seemed like he was trying to be so sadistic and psychotic and etc etc that it just kind of pulled me out of the movie. Like, comparing it to Ledger's Joker, Ledger, while playing off that same kind of crazy, looked really specific in his choices during his performance which ultimately makes it way stronger. But Leto just seemed so random at times that his performance came off as a lot more self-serving and a lot like "look at me act like the Joker would act" as opposed to sinking in and being the Joker like Ledger. That's just my opinion though as a thespian myself so... fuck it, I'm sure people will think I'm just spouting gibberish.

Slipknot was pointless as fuck. Randomly brought in with no backstory other than "doode can climb shit" and was just killed off 5 minutes later. Jai Courtney was... eh. He's called Boomerang and he throws like 4 Boomerangs in total. 3 get destroyed and 1 ones back to him after doing absolutely nothing special. His whole MO is throwing Boomerangs and they did fucking nothing. It was pointless as fuck lol. Karen Fukuhara as Katana was pretty badass. Although, when they said her sword sealed souls, I was expecting some sort of FFTactics Samurai special abilities where she could shoot sword beams or something, I dunno. But again, other than her talking to her katana that kinda glowed, it didn't do anything special. They said her katana sealed souls on like 3 separate occasions, but despite showing her actually killing people (and not just those Enchantress minions), they didn't show the sword actually sucking in any souls or anything fancy like that. Again, kind of fucking pointless =/.

Diablo was cool. Viola Davis was awesome as Amanda Waller. And of course Batfleck was great too. That little mid-credit scene was fun.

Slipknot was there to establish that they can and will kill them if they try to run. I thought it was a good addition to hammer that point in.

When I first saw him I did wonder why I hadn't seen him in any ads and stuff. Was quickly answered

Well yeah, that much was blatantly obvious. It just came off as kind of cheap.

Idk, I would've only felt that if he had been heavily advertised before. And he wasn't for that very specific reason.

Hell, they didnt even give him an intro scene in the movie.

Yeah, that's why I'm saying it was kind of cheap . That moment and the repercussions of them being disobedient could have had more impact is all I'm saying. Which in turn would have made what the military doode did in the bar more meaningful too

Could they have won though? What if they did give him an intro scene, and still kill him off early? People would still get upset.

Tried watching a potato quality stream earlier. Found myself bored and looking at my phone more than caring about the movie. The music was distracting, and just about everything wreaked of "try hard". It literally felt like a soulless movie put together by some execs without any heart whatsoever to sell figures and Hot Topic merchandise.

I only made it to the elevator scene with Harley before saying fuck it and turning off my PS4. Just fucking quit, DC. Let Marvel do what they do, and y'all stick to animated movies.

Interesting that you mention that. I give new movies a chance via potato quality streams first. If, and it's a BIG IF, the dialogue or scene transitions are noteworthy and movie pulls my attention away from my phone, I will definitely give the movie a chance when a decent quality is up. Otherwise, I just skim over it and move on.

Too lazy to pick out specifics but a bit of those problems if you want to call them that kind of stem from trying portray characters with a wealth of backstory the movie goers haven't seen which is sometimes contradictory even. So some things that seemed pointless in the context of just this film or in film in general sometimes was that's how that character is or what that sword does but doesn't really have the time with the rushed way they are doing things to really establish that first. Like half these characters should've gotten their own movie before this to better establish them for reasons like that. Particularly how they are going to establish them in this Universe they are creating instead of just throwing into a new universe

I totally get that. Thinking back, it's as if the characters weren't really utilized to make the most of what they were/are capable of. And that's probably because of the writing/scenario they were in.

I fear something similar will happen with JL considering only half the characters are getting a movie before it. Heck we are supposed to get a JL2 before they do a cyborg. Shit at that point why bother keep him as a side hero like Hawkeye lol

Ok, that cover of Bohemian Rhapsody was terrible. You could have Siri read the lyrics with the same level of emotion

Jared Leto pissed about the cuts:

Looked up for a second source:

    http://variety.com/2016/film/news/su...ed-1201831587/

While Leto initially seemed calm, his poker face went away when asked if he was upset about the scenes being cut. “Were there any that didn’t get cut? I’m asking you, were there any that didn’t get cut? There were so many scenes that got cut from the movie, I couldn’t even start,” he said.
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/films/201...uad-scenes-if/

While the exact extent of the cut material hasn't been confirmed, Leto recently suggested, in an interview with BBC Radio, that it would be enough to provide a standalone Joker movie.
