This is an unmanned mission to lunar orbit and back, the first mission using the new Space Launch System (SLS) rocket, and the first launch of the Orion spacecraft.

The Space Launch System (SLS) is a Boeing & Northrop joint venture. Nothing is reusable considering the amount of fuel and boost produced to reach lunar orbit. That is the same with Space X - some missions with large payloads cannot recover the rockets because of insufficient fuel for the return flight.

It was a spectacular launch last night! I'm almost glad it got delayed because launching at night just seemed to make it even better. I have been so busy today I have not even been able to check the net let along post on BG. I walked around most of the day with a big geek smile on my face.

Reminder: Orion will reach The Moon today. The burn is planned for 7:44 a.m. EST. Coverage begins at 7:15 a.m. During the orbit it will make it's closet approach to the surface at 80 miles. We should get some really awesome pictures out of it!
