Bison is definitely a monster. He's been trashing some of the east coast tournaments already. I was surprised at how easy he was to pick up, as well. Even simple punish combos do massive damage, and his moves are just so god damn safe.

Dhalsim is so damn hard to deal with, also good bisons.
I feel like Bison, Chun and Sim are tops right now, but goddamn if I don't love watching a good Karin beast.
You motherfuckas always hating on a beautiful thing!
Made a short video on some of my ideas for keeping up pressure as Mika off of regular BnB combos rather than the max damage close range passion press + VT and whatever combos everyone else has been making videos of:
That's pretty similar to the kind of pressure I've been gravitating to w/ Mika. The only situation I don't think I'd go for is that VT setup. I don't think VT is ever worth burning on combos unless it's the only thing you can do (i.e. after d.HP) or it will kill (for stuff like midscreen target combo confirm into super). VT mixup into throw is also kinda meh. Seems too low reward for a VT setup - I'd rather save it for either a VT reset or something like the d.HP > VT > Wingless crossup.
For reacting to the crush counter, I find it a bit easier if I aim for f+HP > EX Peach instead of f+HP > EX Wingless. You get a bit of extra time on the regular hit situation, makes looking for the CC hit easier to do, and it's usually better oki.
capcom should do something about forced disconnects on rank asap. every 2. fight i am having is people disconnectign right when i win... its spreading like a virus and annoying atm i see no point into going ranked match at all with this around ¬.¬
also Bison can DIAF. imho that teleport dash needs a nerf, dashed right through my poke into my face ¬.¬ like wtf.
I think it's pretty obvious Capcom has no idea what they're doing.
Wants the game to appeal to casuals, so releases the game with none of the content casuals like and a counterintuitive menu system.
Online to be a big focus, with online to be part of the process for the Pro Tour. Alt + tab glitch, no penalty for rage quitting, server issues, and general netcode design.
Could go on, but this shit has been getting rehashed pretty hard. Anyone who has been spending time in V go play a different fighting game today, and you'll realize what sheer booty V actually is.
Which is funny considering how many pre-regs the game has at Winter Brawl.
Here's the thing.. I think SFV is a good fighting game, as spoken by others. The problem is it's a dogshit VIDEO game. It lacks everything you'd want in a video game, especially appealing to a casual audience (me for instance); Obviously I'll play online, but I feel so shitty about being shitty, I like learning shit off a computer.. whether it's trials/challenges, or whatever. Survival's garbage because if you get d/ced from the network, you can lose progress in Survival, I have no scene here so I can't vs..so I"m stuck either playing online or sitting in training mode. Not exactly something that appeals to a casual audience.
Just think if Capcom hadn't botched this launch as bad as it did. It'd be doing way better and wouldn't be getting dropped right and left by people. Instead, why play now when you can wait til mid-late March or whenever content actually hits, and then go play it because right now it's kind of pointless.
Trials teach you nothing that a simple YouTube search can't. Plus you get way more information in videos than you do trying to figure out how to piece together a set of button presses in a trial. Shit, even Capcom has character tutorials on YouTube.
Survival is garbage but so is playing against the CPU. Losing to whiff punish Supers against a CPU isn't going to teach you anything but how to pick up bad habits.
The only way you can get better at this game is by playing people and learning. The execution barrier is literally the lowest it's ever been, and they completely removed all the bs that allowed frauds to win on IV.
Tldr; everything you need to get gud in this game is there. Whether you feel like it's worth it is on you

While they may have nailed the gameplay they were going, I don't think said gameplay is all that good. Everyone is just wearing blinders because it's the hot new joint and they're effectively being forced to like it.
People have shit on the DoA series for years because of shallow gameplay, yet this is apparently the second coming of Jesus Christ to some?
Yeah I don't think the rewards are super great; but I do think it's a very solid mixup that should consistently net you something, which I think is good in pressure where you already have their stun bar built up.
On Saturday at locals people already were adjusted to the move > VT > wingless setup and were blocking it consistently, I don't think it's really viable long-term, and it really doesn't get you much more reward than the throw/juggle from neutral VT if they jump would.
I wouldn't consider gameplay ALL that good when someone like birdie can't get thrown when the belly is touching the opponent's hand. That character alone has a worse hurtbox than elena, i whiffed throws because i can't get a grasp at the fact that he's a fat man with the hurtbox of a skinny dude, cammy's cr.mk is one of the weirdest things in the world since her foot is totally missing the extra range and the hitbox is past her ankle. The hit/hurtboxes in this game are the wonkiest shit in the world, i understand it's something to get used to etc etc, but with the exception of say elena in usf4, you can pretty much make out the hit/hurtboxes of 99% of fighting games based on the engine alone.
Poison's were shit as well. Abel's and Dhaslim's hit and hurt boxes made no sense. Dudley's sweep wasn't half as good as the animation, I could do combo's on Viper that didn't work on the rest of the cast
Do I need to continue?
Weird hitboxes are annoying but something we all will get used to or they will be corrected in time. There was crazier shit happening in vanilla IV like trade DP > ultras which were way more game breaking than one weird throw animation.
The only thing in the game I think I've felt genuinely salty about is Bison's dash. I think the disparity in tools where a character already has good buttons, but can just bypass footsies entirely, and how half the cast has to burn a super for an invincible move while he just has to tap forward twice is kinda garbo.
