Real talk though, other then slightly lower base health, what weaknesses does Chun have?

She's not weak and she's not particularly OP. Her rush down is good but it's not oppressive. She can't bully her way in and she can't really keep you out infinitely either. To me she's just a solid zoner who can open up the uninitiated. You'll still need top tier patience and matchup knowledge to win consistently with her at a high level.

I guess it's a good sign of the game's balance but everyone is screaming for my character to get nerfed while I can think of at least 4-5 characters of the top of my head that shit on her

I played extended sets with this ultra Gold Mika I met online and I'm not going to lie, that bitch had me in my feelings. Sets where I thought I played perfect still ended in a 5-3 loss. She's a fucking solid character dude.

My opinion on Chun is biased because I find that she absolutely shits all over Bison. Depending on what Alex brings to the table my current plan is keeping Birdie in my back pocket for Chun.

I was playing some sets with Thulius and he 5-0ed my Bison with Chun, but my Birdie with probably less then an hour of actual time invested was able to scope a pair.

All this said, the game is hugely about individual matchups so it's coloring people's perceptions alot.

Chun for me is a game of getting in, but once I'm in she has to spend meter to keep me out, which prevents her from spending meter to capitalize on her damage. Don't get me wrong, the matchup is hard if not played correctly, but that goes for just about every matchup and is why I feel like this game is honest as fuck right now.

Oh yeah I'm not downplaying her at all, I think she's strong but I think there's a lot of parity and the counterpick game is strong. A lot of people still think Sim is really strong and Mika players almost unanimously agree that she wrecks him, but Karin, Chun, and Ryu all are very difficult.

I actually think Ryu is strong as well, maybe not in the broken silly stuff way as a few other characters but more in a every-matchup-is-5/5 way

Ryu feels like he's exactly where he should be. I'd agree with you that he's effectively riding 5/5s or 5.5/4.5s (both ways) for basically the entire cast.

Ryu imo is top 3. Daigo is going to lay waste at Evo. I don't think people realize how strong his V trigger is as a utility tool. Coupled with a full stick of butter and you're eating a 50% combo for whiffing a normal.

Idk if I'd go so far as to say top 3, but I also think that ties into what I said earlier about individual matchups being so important. Every character in the game has a case against them and at least one or two matchups that they lose. It's a testament to the general balance of the game, where I think that other then characters (again personal opinion) that are just bad like Gief and Laura everyone has some winnable matchups. And even then I don't know if the worst matchups could be considered as bad as 7-3 except for maybe Sim vs Gief.

I don't know about top 3, but only because I haven't played the game enough (there are a couple of characters I've literally never played against). I do completely agree that someone who plays this game 12+ hours a day like Daigo is going to absolutely dominate with Ryu's V-Trigger.

I have seen that a few times already. But everyone is saying "OMG siiiick" because it's Daigo. That is more likely to happen in SFV than SFIV because the CA bar fills faster than Super did.

In SFIV most characters (not Rose) built an average of 2 bars per round. In SFV every character builds full CA easily each round. As a matter of fact so many matches end with one player having full CA. It's like people havent figured out they aren't playing SFIV anymore, CA is not as scarce as Super meter.

The window to land that on Dhalsim is a hell of a lot wider than in 4 too. THIS was something ridiculous when it first occurred; I remember the stream going utterly crazy when he landed this:
