Even if only 10% of new, casual players stayed based off the MK9 comparison, that would equal around 510,000 (900,000:6,000,000) new players.
Also, that part doesn't even really matter (assumes every new or casual player left resulting in 0 long term players). At the end of the day, it means they would make incredible profit for their shareholders and it would green light more SFV updates, characters, support and also more projects, such as Darkstalkers, just to throw something out.
Do you really think they will make more fighting games, such as Darkstalkers, if their most known product can't even break 1M sales, much less even come close to catching up with other fighters?
I'll just bow out of the conversation if people can't even see past "core versus is good, I'm ok with the rest sucking", because anyone who thinks that isn't worth the time or conversation.
MK is running ESL with insane pots while SF is relying on third party funding almost entirely. I highly doubt Sony keeps up the support for a game that flopped so hard. This is the type of thing that matters when it comes to putting out a strong product with stuff like Story Mode. If you can't deliver that and have to focus on getting a versus mode out the door, you should shut the door and delay. Period.
