Even if only 10% of new, casual players stayed based off the MK9 comparison, that would equal around 510,000 (900,000:6,000,000) new players.

Also, that part doesn't even really matter (assumes every new or casual player left resulting in 0 long term players). At the end of the day, it means they would make incredible profit for their shareholders and it would green light more SFV updates, characters, support and also more projects, such as Darkstalkers, just to throw something out.

Do you really think they will make more fighting games, such as Darkstalkers, if their most known product can't even break 1M sales, much less even come close to catching up with other fighters?

I'll just bow out of the conversation if people can't even see past "core versus is good, I'm ok with the rest sucking", because anyone who thinks that isn't worth the time or conversation.

MK is running ESL with insane pots while SF is relying on third party funding almost entirely. I highly doubt Sony keeps up the support for a game that flopped so hard. This is the type of thing that matters when it comes to putting out a strong product with stuff like Story Mode. If you can't deliver that and have to focus on getting a versus mode out the door, you should shut the door and delay. Period.

The way Revelator is being handled is the perfect showing of how games in this situation should run it in the future. Giving the hardcore fanbase a way to dig in without any risk of being criticized for an unfinished or weak product on release.

no, I know who Ono is you fucking idiot lol, I mean Ono is part of the problem with capcom as a whole being such shit.

and people buy MK games, at least casuals do for the story because the story's been interesting to an extent. Nobody, even SF fans really give a shit about the SF story.

Bison bad. Ryu and Ken good. Ryu and Ken punch and kick. Bison falls. We win. \o/

Who cares. That's why I think it's hilarious that people are up in arms about the lack of story mode. God knows SF4's 'story mode' was nothing to write home about.

And the point being, if they did have strong features, such as a good* story mode, then their sales would be a hell of a lot higher. Create a standard, develop a following, and rinse/repeat. They would have higher sales. Higher sales lead to more funding, stock increases, and branched products.

Or they can continue down the path you idiots deem acceptable and will be auctioning off IPs a year after Sony cuts the cord, which will be the second their contact is up based on results.

Also, Ono was amazing as as part of SF4. He pushed for the game in the first place, delivered a hell of a product, and was well received by fans. Hell, SF4 3d on Nintendo DS has sold more copies than SFV has to date, that is how bad of a state they are currently in.

I don't deem shit acceptable. It's been an utter failure if it can't outsell fucking Naruto in the fighting game area. Gimme a break.

I just think it's great you really think a good story mode would've really brought in as many fans as you really think.

Maybe, and this is just me talking, but.. maybe people are just sick of Street Fighter and find a lot of it unappealing in general? The game, character wise, is ugly as sin. Getting punished as hard as you do for a whiffed DP doesn't exactly keep the most casual around. The roster is pretty dogshit. I could go on and on.

Be delusional and think a story mode would've really sold another 100-200k copies, tho.

The story mode point Welt is using is very simple to digest and I don't know why were circling back around in arguing about it.

Capcom wanted to make the game as casual friendly as possible. One of the areas casuals eat up is single player or "alternate" content (think the Tekken series and stuff like Tekken Bowl, Tekken Force, etc). By completely failing to deliver anything content wise that appeals to the casual customer, they've caused irreparable damage to the games reputation. Most of the Steam reviews as they are now will never be changed, nor will alot of the negative reviews on other sites.

    A. I just said "good features, such as a good* story mode". I agree it would take more than just that, but that is the core of what they needed*. A great story mode, as long as they could connect to it, would have caused all the casual gamers to give it positive reviews. Word of mouth would then spread and a lot more people would have bought it. There are more gamers than ever that don't buy a game until reviews are released.

    B. I agree with everything else you just said. Also, idiots = anyone here deeming what they have produced acceptable. If you believe that, then include yourself. If not, don't. But yes, I agree the game looks bad and the combat system is shit, as well. They couldn't have made worse decisions in trying to reach their goal of "welcome the casual player."

Edit: Changed "need" to "needed" because no matter what they add, at this point, it is too late to recover.

I'll pose this, but I actually don't expect anyone to answer honestly:

If this game was released with:

    A. A different name. Let's call it Battle Royale Extreme or some nonsense.
    B. The exact same mechanics
    C. The exact same online issues
    D. The exact same game modes
    E. Completely different character names. In other words, this was not a Street Fighter game. Ryu becomes "Johnny Hero" and Chun Li becomes "Sarah Star".

Would you still be playing it? I sure as fuck wouldn't. It would be dead in 3 months, in this scene. At best, it would have a SkullGirls type niche following. It would be the meme laughing stock of fighting games.

I'm pretty sure my reaction to that would be the same as it is to SFV, in that it provides excellent gameplay locally and is shit at everything else. Mind you if it was called something else I probably wouldn't have even played it enough to realize I loved the gameplay.

Nope, which is what part of my point was. SF in general has run it's course in terms of being bad and annoying. This just adds to it. The lack of anything else to do in the game, but shitty challenges, a terribly designed Survival mode, and then.. online, and yeah. The game's pretty zzzzz especially to a casual player.

But we're on the same page, Welt. Honestly, we were all jobbed when we expected V to actually be a solid entry. The fact that it's gonna take multiple months to even make it an okay video game is just a sad state of what a lot of gaming has become nowadays

What else are we gonna talk about? More bugs within the game or broken shit? Tourney results? Nobody cares about EU, so we can't do that lol

It's not just story mode but the whole package, ur gonna tell me that a lot of people are not gonna feel ripped off for paying full retail 59.99 for 0 content and broken online?
People expect a lot more for that price.

Maybe if the game was priced much lower or used KI's season thing they could have gotten away with this. Best case we can hope for now is they do what nintendo did with splatoon game launched super bare bones but thru free DLC the game is now fucking amazing.

Outside of Welt and JCVD I don't think anyone here necessarily has an issue with the actual gameplay. While it is relatively shallow and to some (read: Welt and JCVD) it doesn't actually feel like Street Fighter (meaning it's not SFIV), it is entertaining enough for what it is.

As a filthy casual who hasn't been decent in a SF game since SF vs X-Men, single player story to see all the endings is one of my favorite things, and one of non money reasons why I cancelled my preorder.

I can deal with the sub-par game mechanics, but you cannot sit here and tell me they met their goal of "casual friendly". Casual players have absolutely no chance in this game. This game, other than learning Mika's vortex in a single hour, requires a hell of a lot of frame knowledge and how all of that works. The game didn't give new players any way of learning the game or about frame advantage, at all. Even worse, due to all the online issues, the game gave them no way to enjoy learning the hard way of just getting destroyed. It is actually so one sided, due to WAY too much damage on punishes into Super, that I doubt they played for more than a few days because a single mistake cost them the entire round.

Oh they definitely failed on every front at making the game casual friendly, both in lack of content and the actual gameplay.

I agree the game was half baked, but the gameplay in my opinion is solid enough. Especially compared to Vanilla IV

Street Fighter V: A Preliminary Thread

I'm one who is 50/50 on the gameplay (aka not sf4). But this is coming from an anime player more than anything else, i can't stand slow fighters. I'm surprised no one really mentioned the fact that the game loses some key features (fight money, shop, broken friend list lol) that it was promoted to revolve around if your game suddenly disconnects.

I agree with krandor, aksys has done everything correct w/ the revelator demo so far. Yea you preorder the game to get the demo, but the game in the demo is tournament ready.

I thought you'd have gone all-in and said that Idiots = anyone who bought the game at launch that isn't a tournament fighter. Paying full price for 33% of the game seems like a rip-off, but that's just me, a guy living vicariously through spectating and watching tournies until I deem the game having enough content to justify the full price.

But nobody likes to call themselves an idiot. I understand.

Capcom's PR department has been off the rails since RE3. I want to say I'm not sure why this is being discussed, but I do understand: if we don't talk about something, we wouldn't talk at all.

Anyone who bought the game at full price on PC, indeed, is an idiot. The game was selling for $35 before it even launched on more than 1 site.

Also, I got a full refund on my Ps4 order (amazon).
