According to some translations of what's said on the JP site, there is no mention of new characters, be they completely new or new to the SF universe. It just says 5 more characters. Could chalk it up to the JP side not caring about fluffing up the season pass or a mistranslation. But the translation given during CC was most likely not completely on the fly and prepared ahead of time so who knows. Could just be Capcom JP vs Capcom NA again.

Either way, Capcom will get shit for "rehashing old characters" (which will get more bitching cause they don't play like before) or "new characters no one cares about."

I think it's obviously meant to be a gouken costume reference, I don't see how that makes them terrible stupid devs besides "because I said so" if there is a gouken in the works. They're brothers, Yun and Yang also had very similar costumes.

Regardless of the costume, Gouken plays nothing like Akuma so it's not like they are adding a clone. Ryu and Ken already proved that. Also, as we've seen, Capcom has taken some wild departures on how characters look in SFV so Akuma having a "Gouken" alt doesn't really mean much either. On the flipside, Gouken could end up with an "Akuma" alt for shits and giggles too.

I'm not denying the game has turned out as a shitshow so far, I'm just curious how the hypothetical idea to include gouken if there's a already a gouken-like costume is proof of how terrible they are. It could've been intentional misdirection, it could've been to gauge interest, it could've just been planned so they have similar costumes in general. Or even if you are right and they did it because they never thought they would add gouken and then they decided later on to add it, so what? How does that make them bad devs for changing their mind about a decision? What makes them so terrible and stupid with regards to this single decision, ignoring all the previous animosity you've built up for them? It seems like a pretty benign one to me.

It seems pretty obvious that the most wanted characters are Sagat, Sakura, Blanka, etc. Gouken is easily in the bottom 3-5 characters that people want to see return.

This + them already giving Akuma a Gouken skin = they would have to be fucking retarded to add Gouken, right now.
