SF4 may have been ugly, but it was at least visually clear and easy to look at. SFxT/SF5 are painful to look at IMO by comparison, something is off with the contrast/color saturation and everything just looks gross.

The game has a really poor implementation of FXAA, which doesn't do it any favors and ruins alot of the graphical fidelity.

Like I said, this isn't my first time having this debate. I've had it many times, hence why I in my very first post on this debate, I warned that anyone who argues against it would lose in a landslide, because that's exactly what happens every time when someone does try it.

Besides, I wouldn't type all that shit out if I didn't know who Spider-Dan is. If it's the same Spider-Dan as the one on SRK, then yes, he is an OG and I've read many of his posts in the since 2001 srk days.

Yes, SF2 totally didn't benefit from the booming arcade scene. It totally didn't benefit being the first REAL competitive fighting game that didn't play like doodoo. It totally didn't benefit from the fact that the market at the time wasn't as saturated with fighting games as when SF4 was released.

And then of course, the mother of all dishonest caping: citing SF5's ridiculous 5k EVO entrants.... while conveniently forgetting SF5 came in and ROAD ON THE COAT TAIL of SF4 and it's record seven continuous year of competitive growth.

SF4 made it so that Capcom could have fucking released ANY new numbered SF in 2016 and it would have gotten 5k entrants at EVO. The fact that a SF5, a POS that's panned by both critics and players alike, managed to get 5k at EVO is only further proof SF4 did its job better than any SF, ever.

And then SF5 took a giant shit on that.

Something to note: a majority of people had paid for EVO before SFV was even released because the seating was thought to sell out. My entire local scene did and then a mighty 0 of them actually attended. Better to just take a loss than to spend even more to play 5.

One last point to address on this topic and I'm done, because this statement was 90% false and it bothers me.

Vanilla Sagat was nowhere near as broken as people make him out to be. He won ZERO major of note in Vanilla. I always facepalm when people say shit like, SF4 was ruined due to horrible balance because Vanilla Sagat.

And I'm just like, nigga, are you even looking at the results of the time? Sagat DIDN'T WIN SHIT.

Japanese SF4 National was won by Iyo Dhalsim.
American Nationals was between Rufus vs Ehonda.
Evo was won by Daigo Ryu vs Jwong BALROG and had ZERO Sagat in top 8.
The Gamestop International World champ final 4 was 2x Ryu, Dhalsim, Rufus.
    SBO 2009 2v2 was Finals was Rufus/Cviper vs Dhalsim/Abel

http://forums.shoryuken.com/discussi...n-summary-2009 I can spot zero evidence of Sagat being this mythical ruiner of balance. Sagat won literally nothing of note.

But yeah, that's all imma say on this subject.

USF4 GOAT, don't ever forget that, scrubs.

edit: actually, going through that list, I noticed something. SF4 Evo top 8 actually had more character diversity than SF5 Evo top 8 lol.

    1. Daigo Umehara (Ryu)
    2. Justin Wong (Rufus, Boxer, Abel)
    3. Ed Ma (Akuma)
    4. Sanford "Santhrax" Kelly (Akuma, Cammy)
    5. Long "ShadyK" Tran (Akuma)
    5. Eduardo "Vvv scrub" Perez-frangie (Boxer, E. Honda)
    7. Takashi "Dan from Japan" Hukushi (Ryu)
    7. Ricky Ortiz (Rufus)

    vs

    RZR Infiltration (Nash)
    RZR Fuudo (R. Mika)
    Yukadon (Nash)
    HM Go1 (Chun-Li)
    LI Joe (Nash)
    MOV (Chun-Li)
    HM Eita (Ken)
    AW Nemo (Vega)

The consensus OP'd Vanilla Sagat didn't even make top 8, whereas with SF5, the consensus most OP'd Chun appears twice in SF5 top 8.

Vanilla SF5 more balanced than Vanilla SF4? LMAO, safe to say, myth busted.

Akuma wrecked the shit out of Vanilla Sagat. Eventually, Ryu did too after Daigo realized how broken his standing LP was against Sagat.

Vanilla SF4 was leaps and bounds better than Vanilla SFV; anyone who thinks otherwise is a complete bafoon.

Street Fighter V: A Preliminary Thread

    Disclaimer:

I liked 4 better than 5 and I still do.

The tournament scene back then was littered with Sagat bandwagons. People who wanted to win played Sagat. Period. The game was riddled with them and Balrog players. It may have only been relative to my region, but that's the truth. I wasn't arguing tournament results so much as I was player trends.

Well yeah, the top tiers are always going to have the most people playing them. At the end of the day, Sagat VSF4 didn't come close to ruining the game.

Marvel 2's cast was like 5% playable and that didn't stop it from keeping the FGC alive for literally 8 years, by itself. Marvel 3 had a hell of a lot more viable characters, but it wasn't anywhere near as good as Marvel 2.

And how many majors did SF5 Chun win?

By your logic, she was never OP at all.

You don't want to get into the talk of who benefited from what.

First off: the arcade scene boomed BECAUSE of SF2. There were lots of places that NEVER had an arcade machine at all - laundromats, convenience stores, even restaurants - that got them specifically to cash in on fighting games. And once the arcade scene died, those all went away.

Second, SF4's primary sales pitch was, "Hey look, we are bringing back all the characters from SF2 and getting rid of all the extra stuff we added since then!" SF4 was a DIRECT attempt to ride SF2's coattails with people who had long quit SF.

And lastly: your attempt to try to pretend that SF2 somehow fell backwards into its enormous success - as if everyone was just waiting for that game to come along the whole time - is ridiculous and absurd. You can delegitimize Super Mario Bros. 1 with the same logic.

And then of course, the mother of all dishonest caping: citing SF5's ridiculous 5k EVO entrants.... while conveniently forgetting SF5 came in and ROAD ON THE COAT TAIL of SF4 and it's record seven continuous year of competitive growth.
You want to talk about EVO attendance coattails? Without MVC2 (and to a lesser extent, CVS2/ST) there would be no EVO and SF4 would have started from rock bottom. EVO Moment #37 wouldn't exist and the millions of people who watched it would never have known about the biggest tournament in the world.

I also find it interesting that you have yet to mention the fact that SF5 does not have an arcade release in Japan. Pretty interesting how Japan dominates most of SF4 and then once they are on a level playing field with the rest of the world (i.e. to play against good players, you have to set up offline meets, or play with online lag), suddenly we have USA vs. USA grand finals.

But tell me more about the amazing wizardry of Japanese character specialists in a country that has mostly character-locked tournaments!

the fuck, of course more of the same character makes Top in SF5 when the cast consists of 16 vs 25 as oposed to IV. not to mention you conveniently listed secondarys on IV just for the sake of it.

Smug just 10-1'd Jwong then 10-5'd Kbrad.

Smug finally reaches the top to cement his place with Du as the 1-2 of SF5.... Just like they were in SF4 LOL.

Even Smug can't make this turd fun to watch.

He also didn't mention that Smug had a 9 win streak on Kbrad after being down 4-0, he almost went 10 straight but he got cocky at the end and started taunting with his vskill.
