The flaws it had were minimal and the OGs you see complaining are only complaining because they lose to new blood who can execute a hell of a lot better than them. There are tons of "OGs" who also disagree with them.

Who are you even referring to when you say "OGs"? The good OGs, other than Valle/Choi have mostly quit. I've been playing just as long or longer than most of the people you are referring to and know plenty of "old players" who all agree SF4 is better than anything else we've had.

You only started hearing them talk when they stopped even sniffing Top 8s.
Sabin spent how many iterations shitting on SF4? Fchamp as well. Choi, Ed ma, hell even Sanford has said the game was shitty at points.

Yes, there are a lot of good SF4 matches, but I was more talking about genre defining ones. Ones that I'd show to a regular person and be like, this is Street Fighter in all of its glory.

Random topanga matches between two gods are great, but they lack a lot of the emotion that make them sincerely memorable past the fact that there are two players are really good at whiff punishing and execution. To me, SF4 lacked the sort of emotion behind button presses and reads that I felt SF3 really captured. In 3S, there were levels to mixup past baiting a bad DP... There's something to be said of that sort of depth that I think IV lacks.

Ultra fixed the biggest issue, which was them being positive on block.
I dunno. Its kinda like people acting like you can parry literally everything in 3S as if you're not pressing forward and can get blown up and chunked for 1/3 or more of your life depending on the situation for free. Were there parry option selects? Sure. And I'll say some of that shit was kinda scummy but the situations where that really mattered were few and far between.

People's criticisms of both games leave a lot to be desired. I really just shake my head at anyone who says Chun is OP and then say 3S has no footsies when Chun is strong because her neutral game is just so good (which only goes to show how much footsies actually matter in 3S)
    Spoiler: show
They're more important than anything. Its not SA2 that wins matches.

It also highlighted everything wrong with the game in its current form (read : Elena) but I honestly think the Gamerbee vs Infil match was the best SF4 match ever.

I wouldn't call Fchamp an OG lol. If he was playing back in the day, I sure as hell didn't notice him. Same goes for Ed Ma. If anything, he started in like 3rd Strike. I guess it depends on what game you want to call someone an OG. In my opinion, if they were playing before Marvel 2, you weren't an OG. Maybe SF3: New Generation?

Being a 3rd Strike player certainly doesn't make someone good or an OG (or even close). I think that is something that needs to go out the window that is thrown out too often.

And, I'll even add the daigo vs gamerbee umeshoryu match.. You just don't see matches played like that often enough in SFIV. Ones where players make a real effort to mind fuck the other person. Maybe that's why 3S players hate on 4 so much.

I've played SF casually since Alpha 3... actually no scratch that, since the Sega Genesis SF2. Does that make me an OG?

That term is so stupid nowadays. Who gives a fuck who's OG and who's not if people all enjoy the game.

People care and it matters because people from X game tend to play certain ways and its helpful in match knowing that.

    You need to have:

    1) Gone to tournaments since online competition didn't exist
    2) Have done so by X game

The variable in #2 is where people differ in opinion. I would say an OG played by Marvel 1. Some people would say 3rd Strike (no...). Some people say by SF2 (Choi/Valle).

Whether you think it matters or not, it's helpful in understanding your opponent.

    i played and enjoyed

sf2, Killer Instinct(snes & 64), kof95>99, Final bouts(fight), Samurai showdown, Garou MOTW, (neo geo emulators trying to download roms on 56k dial ups that was the real struggle). So does that make me OG?! (i never played in any tournament till day 1 SF4 in a gamestop tournament lol.. i picked ken and got bodied). I didnt realize this type of scene existed before that

In my understanding the difference between an OG and just an old person who has been playing games for a long time is that OGs just complain about new games instead of adapting to them :D

I refer to an OG as anyone who played and won in the competitive scene before or around the alpha/3s/cvs2 days

Pssh, that's also how i see it. But at the same time, i never played cvs2, A3 very competitively, a little bit of 3S. Guess i'm not an OG cuz i've been playing guilty gear since X and transitioned to competitive play when XX came out. i miss 2003

I completely understand his point though. Sf4 has an exceptionally stiff combo system (read : 1 frame links) compared to the prior entries in the series, which can lend to feeling somewhat robotic during combos.

I remember it being a complaint around launch time, and now that the series is loosening things up again people go back to complaining.

I Play SFIV. It's been my main game since day 1. I was never competitive in 3S but I'm not dumb.

3S's parry system and the overrall play style, coupled with the rediculous option selects present in IV, means that pressing a button carries way more weight 3S. It has nothing to do with taste, but good job assuming.
