The difference is these players find a main, per game iteration, and they stick to them. They try to learn how to make bad matchups better.

We have seen Daigo lose several times to Dhalsim without switching to Yun as a counter. We have seen Champ lose with Dhalsim to Yun several times without switching to Seth. Etc etc.

I'm not saying I agree or disagree either way, but I am saying fuck Elena

My argument has always come from the perspective of the spectator. Counter picking leads to terrible viewing experience because 99% of the time when you're watching a counter picking match, it's either not competitive, or you're watching a sloppy match in which players are using their 3rd and 4th string characters.

I don't tune in on Sunday nights to watch Daigo play Ehonda; Tokido play Zangief, Snakeeyez playing E. Ryu, Pr Balrog playing Fei. I tune in to watch players play at their best, and their best is 100% of the time with their main characters in which they've spent the better part of over half a decade to perfect.

That said, I respectfully disagree about the "disingenuous, misinformed bullshit" about some "spirit of competition" being ruined by counterpicking. Anytime you start talking about "spirit of" in a discussion where no one is breaking any established rules, you're attempting a grab at justifying your own biased agenda. Spirit this and spirit that: if the governing body of these events agreed with you, they'd institute a ban on counter-picks. End of story.

Everything else is irrelevant in that long-winded college lesson, but thanks for posting your opinion on it.

Knuckle du was talking about counter picking briefly in some interview and he said that counter picking is only shitty for whoever lost the first match.. Because if a player loses his first match he has to be be confident that if he wins with said counter pick, he still remains open to being counter picked as well... OR if he wins the second match with his main then his opponent has the option to counter pick the last sets match for free..

To me, both scenarios are lame snd I think players should be barred from switching characters either A) if they have won a game in a set or B) if the next game decides the set for either person (ie the final/deciding match)

this brought me back to the arcade days in early 90s when throwing was cheap because you couldn't block it. you weren't an "honorable" player if you threw your way to victory.

also, said it during evo, stick to karate champ if you want a balanced fighter with no bad matchups. it's part of the game by design.
