I took it as Whis has a favor he can call in to rewind the world to a previous restore point. That's why there's two Mais and Trunks. If Trunks motivation was to save his world, then he did, by having Whis reboot it and accompanying him to go Super Seal® Zamasu/Black away. I mean, you can't be picky in how he did it, Trunks literally traveled through time and space to not just save the Earth, but the entire multiverse, from Black. I for one think he did a bang up job if he got his world restored to a point pre-Black.
Irrc Whis couldn't restore the world, he sent them to the world that Beerus created whe nhe killed Zamasu
The whole end of the arc was pretty messy but sorta up for interpretation on whether Trunks saved his world or not. Practically he did but without more explanation it's kind of vague. I mean Trunks himself thought he didn't save shit, so there's that.
Overall a disappointing end only made acceptable by that Gohan part making all the fans thirsty for him to do shit.
Fuck Gohan.
When Beerus killed Zamasu he created one more timeline that splits from the one of our heroes, he didn't go into another, he created one. Trunks got sent into that one, not his original one, so in a broad sense he didn't go home, just the thing that was more similar. That's why there's duplicates.
At least this is my understanding. Fuck DB timetravel bs, let's go back to have fun with tournaments.
Nerp; Trunks didn't go to the timeline beerus created (that one is still based off of our own timeline and not his)
What they ended up doing was creating even another new timeline. They went to Trunks' timeline, but went to a point in it before Zamasu/Black started destroying everything. He asked Beerus to handle Zamasu and that change created the timeline that Trunks and Mai returneded to.
Basically it's a duplicate version of his own timeline, but no black/zamasu, so they basically lose being members of the resistance/the bonds they created during their struggles together; but that's about it (oh and the fact that there are 2 trunks and mai in the world now)
No, Trunks failed. He had to have a new timeline created for him and going back to a point where all the memories/struggles of the resistance never happened. Let's say the boy from the 2 kids (the brother/sister) saw Trunks being a hero and was inspired to spend his life helping people. I mean when something big like that it has a pretty large influence on your life. He no longer has that experience because the world Whis created was reset to a point before Black/Zamasu started doing dirt.
It's like copies of their friends/resistance that they got close to and made friends w/ exist, but they're not the same people w/ the same memories and moving forward are going to develop differently.
Not only that, but Trunks has to live w/ the fact that literally he did not protect his own world (and thus has to copout by having a new one created). That was a draw. Nobody won. Zamasu didn't win (got killed in the end) but he did get their world trashed, so Trunks and them didn't protect it, either)
That was a complete mission fail, lol.
People still believe this? It has never been stated he's created anything. It's never been implied, either. People just assume this for whatever reason. Being the king of something doesn't mean you created it. this is the "Zeno exists outside of time" shit all over again, lolcreate life with his power.
I don't think it's relevant if he can create life at this point, but since he seems to have the power of a GoD, and the kais give him the same respect a GoD gives him, it's not a stretch to believe he at the very least oversees life in a more pronounced way just like he can destroy like a GoD, but in a more pronounced way.
Also, y'all nigs cray. Trunks literally saved the -multiverse- from destruction by his actions, but y'all saying he failed because he reverted Earth to a time before all the pain and death caused by Black? Lololol.
It's like you guys aren't even aware that they wrote Mai into this ending to cover the fact that no one will remember or be aware of Savior Trunk because of the time reversal, but he won't be alone cause he has waifu now. That's why the ending was so bittersweet, my nigga Trunks is the ultimate hero, one never seen before in Dragonball. He's a mortal going against the god that killed (almost) all other gods, and he did it while also erasing the pain caused to humans by Black. Fuck that, no one except Trunks/Mai can complain about that outcome.
He didn't revert anything. They literally created a new timeline that didn't exist before. Nothing got saved; and while saving all the timelines may have been important, that's not what TRUNKS' personal goal was.
His personal goal was to protect his homeland, which he failed to do; and he wasn't even the one to do the "revert" as you want to call it. Whis did that.
Edit: Also, I'm not complaining at all. I'm fine w/ the ending being how it was. Trunks doesn't have to win for me to be happy. The heroes don't always need a perfect ending every time for me to go enjoy an ending.
Trunks failed; and that's fine. He has still gained a lot from the experience.
It's a "We lost the battle, but won the war" type of deal
I don't think he failed since the result he got was actually better than if he had just destroyed Black. It wasn't his intention but he did fine and got the result. I doubt Trunks would be sad to see Bulma again.
The ending just illustrates how sloppy and shitty the writing is though.
Disagree, the ending highlights why time travel is a sad ending for the person doing the traveling, no matter the outcome. The ending is bittersweet, kinda like how Looper or Deja Vu was for me.
That's not what he wanted though. He wanted to save his own world.
Let's take example from his fist trip. He went back to help them vs the Android, but also to get strong enough/find out how to beat the Androids, so that he could do it in his time.
He could have stayed in the better world where the destruction was prevented, but instead he went home, not only to destroy the androids, but to help them rebuild. Those were his people. That was his world. It was where he felt he belonged and that's the world he wanted to save.
It was never about creating a new timeline. It was about saving his own, and that's where he failed, and he even felt like he failed himself
It's obviously not the outcome he was looking for or fighting for; even if it's one he eventually comes to accept
Yeah I mentioned that already. Either way it's a better result than he could have ever hoped for even if it's super unsatisfying. Failing is not exactly the word I'd use but going around in circles is bothersome since i know what you mean.
The most annoying part of all this is how fucking stupid the gods are. "Stop relying on the gods" was one of the worst lines I've ever heard when basically they're the reason shit has been getting crazy. It took basically an entire timeline getting destroyed for them to do something about it, even then it was like eh.
He's gonna be an outcast Trunks in this new world since there already is a Trunks. He didn't save his world, he just got to go to another version of it before it was destroyed. Not sure how anyone can argue that this is a happy ending for him. It's dark but he has to accept it because its better than nothing.
If they didn't fuck up and retcon fusion, I'd say he could use potara and fuse w/ himself and have mai fuse w/ herself; but that'd only last an hour now
He could always kill the other trunks lol.
I mean he could; lol but it's Trunks we're talking about. Being able to and wanting to/being willing to are two completely different things
