The fact that Beerus brought up training Goku and Whis smiled about it makes me feel that Goku himself was the person that put the hit out on himself. Asked Whis to get ahold of Hit or Vados and put a hit out on himself so he could meet hit again and test his might / train. That is why he knew hit was coming and was waiting for his arrival.

I don't know if we're going to still be bound to the ending of Dragonball Z after all this. Time travel creates new timelines, Trunks coming back into the past and bringing Goku and Vegeta forward to fight Black may have altered everything for all we know.

If they plan to go beyond the EoZ (end of Z) then they will probably retcon it. If Super ends before that, then it's easy enough to say that all of this shit happened between dbz and EoZ and not have a single continuity error.
