Gohan did like studying anyway. He said he wanted to become a scholar since he was little. As for "having the drive to train" I'm not so sure..he just wanted to play and walk around, whenever Goku tried to train him he cried cause he was a pacifist his whole life. Even Piccolo had to force him in life threatening conditions to convince him to start working on that and it's only after he dies that he starts taking that seriously(while still trying to always avoid battles, much unlike Goku who was much more inclined to fight anyone he ever met for jollies).

lol, I just realized that Gohan was killing Cell at the same age Goku was about to meet Bulma. What a shame that he's so useless now. Hopefully Piccolo taking a shot for him (fucking again) will push him to stop sucking.

Yes and no. He was a good plot driving point, but he was only alive for 2 episodes. Cui lasted longer than him.
