Meh, I wouldn't reduce fighting both Frieza V2 and Android 17 to a draw to merely "stalling for time".
Both fights were integral elements of their respective arcs.

I really do like Piccolo, but literally all he did there was stall time. Frieza was in form 2. He was at like 5% of his power or something ridiculous like that.

And all he did with 17 was hold him off till the bigger players (Cell and Vegeta/trunks) showed up.

As far as the rest of that stuff, I agree that he is very important plot wise and the story would be much worse off without him. I'm just not surprised that he lost this fight, as he has literally never won a fight after like the 3rd episode of DBZ, and that was only because Goku sacrificed himself.

Yeah definitely not surprised, and definitely agree with you. Writers spoiled an opportunity to make him more awesome here.

Meh. It's just a trend that started after the very first DBZ saga. If you ain't Saiyan you ain't shit. To be honest, I cringed a little when Piccolo had to point out in this episode "I'm known as a strategist." That's some please notice me senpai type shit.
