I can't remember well but I don't believe this was something done intentionally versus something that came out of coincidence.

But at the end of the day, the issue was to destroy Buu and they failed. Nothing will change that formula. Goku button got pressed and the fight was over.

When did this theory actually start lol? I've always heard Vegetto = Vegeta dominant and Gogeta = Goku dominant but I don't think I've ever seen it mentioned in any canon material. And probably because Gogetta isn't canon to begin with.

Admittedly I haven't watched any DBS up until about episode 55 or so. I started it last year when it first came out and was unimpressed, but man, this shit is on point. I may go back and watch the tournament stuff.

How awesome would it be if they used the Supreme Kai's earrings to fuse Vegeta and Goku, then fuse Vegetto to Trunks using Gowasu's earrings, making the ultimate fighter. (yes I realize this is stupid fandom, but would be great nonetheless)
