    Multiple security tokens + app?

    So, I've got 3 tokens I've acquired:

    1. My original one for the Mog Satchel
    2. My FFXIV 1.0 CE one
    3. My FFXIV 2.0 CE one

I was wondering, as #1 has yet to show any signs of oddity, but I'm scared I'll lose it, is it possible to attach 2 and 3 on to it, as well as the android and iphone app tokens for a total of 5 ways to get an one time password?

Or is it strictly 1 physical OR app token only?

token batteries have a lifespan (approx 7 years), if you have an original token from the mog satchel purchase its actually coming up on its effective battery life, changing it wouldnt be a terrible idea.
however you shouldnt change it to the next one in line but the newest one for best battery existence on it

Aye, understood. It'd be nice to combine the app and the token together but I just logged in to have a look around, and nope not an option. Shame

they do that because if you lost one then it could be used to access your account. double security isnt actually better security sometimes, occasionally it makes it worse
in this instance there is no real winner for which is better, tokens can be lost, nomed by a dog, phones change all the time, firmware updates, bricks, etc.
Ive used the physical token for about as long as you have and its my go to method, Ill be switching mine when the new CE for the expansion comes out, which will very likely have a new token in it

Yeh true that. In this case it seems removing the token is easier if it's app'd ... due to the emergency password which I can stow away elsewhere. But for the token you gotta call them up

edit: i'm just paranoid, so i'm weighing the benefits based on how easy i can remove/replace, the pros and cons of either yes, I understand full :D

I'm one of those folks who have had it since their original introduction. Any clue if they get a low battery warning of some sort so you can cut it from your account before getting locked out due to dead battery?

It's also a pain in the ass once it dies to get square to believe you're the original owner to remove the token from your account so you can replace it. I've replaced mine twice now, roughly every 5y at a time, because fuck messing around with that problem. Your battery life may vary as well with use, the more times you use it, the faster it will degrade.

What's the process to switching? You've all got me paranoid now because I don't remember any code or anything with my original release dongle.

Preemptive edit: If you've got a phone dongle, how does it work when getting a new phone?

I can't login to check but this is how I understood it:

To switch, login with the physical dongle, and find the option to remove the dongle
    Then, download the app
Login again (? -- probably don't have to but some systems log you out)
Find the option to add "software token"
Insert the unique ID generated in app
    Done

When getting a new phone, you need to to use the app to generate an emergency/special remove password to remove the existing software token, then download the app on the new phone and add the ID again using the above steps.

I recently accidentally stuck my phone in the washing machine and had to get a new one, I just used SE live chat support gave them my name, address, email, and birthday, and they removed the old token.

The battle.net and rift authenticators are nice, I think they are tied in with your sim card or something, I didn't have to do any reconfiguring, or contact support, they just worked after downloading them on my new phone.

I'll look into switching while my dongle's still live, then. I've been worrying about the battery in it recently just on account of it having been several years and this is as good a reason as any to get motivated. Watch me get home from work and it's already dead.

    Dongle.
