Or is it just because even though they personally may feel like they are now the sex they wanted to be it isn't reinforced by the outside world?

And if being able to fully feel comfortable as a trans person requires every person in your daily life to "play along" with your assumed identity does this mean that it is essentially impossible to ever fully heal a trans person in this day and age?

There are a lot of reasons and acceptance is part of it but opportunity is also in the equation. It is easier for transsexuals who are passable to obtain acceptance than it is for transsexuals who aren't that lucky. Unfortunately, for most transsexuals, by the time they fully transitioned, they have already gone through puberty, making the change that much harder to achieve. And if you were born male, have gone through puberty, and have the bad luck of having strong masculine features, it might never be possible to fully transition into a passable woman.

Feminine men might have an easier time transitioning to women, and generally, women have an easier time transitioning to men. They each have very specific problems though. Male to female transsexuals have to worry about their strong male features making it impossible to look like a female, while female to male transsexuals have to cope with the possibility of never having a functional penis and a much harder time finding hormones, since testosterone is also an illegal drug in sports.

I imagine very few transsexuals make successful transitions. The only way to really help increase that is by helping diagnose transsexual children early, so that you can put them on hormone blockers before puberty is over, so they have a better chance to have a full transition without feeling like they will look like monsters. I believe Leelah Alcorn said as much in her suicide note.

It's impossible to disagree with the first part as that is straight up facts but the second part just doesn't sit right with me. It may be my innate distrust of psychiatrics in general but I feel like putting a prepubescent child on life altering hormones to permanently change them is a bit insane considering that a pubescent child eg:14-16 can't consent to sex which is a far less life altering thing. What if there is a misdiagnosis? What if the parents are seeing something that isn't there? Who is to say the child fully understands the nature of what might be done to them? A persons bias and beliefs might bleed into the diagnosis and ruin someones life ala John Money and David Reimer. I just don't like the idea of transitioning kids with hormones for the same reasons that i don't like circumcising them.

I feel like further advancement in neuroscience would help trans people more than any hormone or surgery and that trans people may not even exist in the future given said advancements.

My hope is that as science advances, we'll have better methods of determining who is and isn't transsexual. Once we can do that, we can decide whether to block puberty until the transsexual reaches adult age and can make the final decision on which sex they wish to transition to. If science advances far enough, you could conceivably also have the ability to make a transsexual be satisfied with the sex they were born as. It might be prudent to leave both options on the table if it ever came to that.

edit: note that i'm not advocating transition children early. I am saying it might be a good idea to delay puberty until they can make the decision themselves to transition if we have sufficient certainty that they are in fact transsexual.

I keep hearing from transgender advocates that there are no downsides to delaying puberty but how true is this? I know that certain disorders like anorexia/bulimia can lead to postponed puberty which if delayed long enough can cause various issues like stunted growth and infertility etc. But i guess infertility isn't a huge issue for trans people.

“It was all [n-word],” Billy said. “There were a few white people, but they were just entertaining the blacks, like playing basketball. There were lots of [n-word] angels watching them play basketball. Jesus was a [racial slur], too. Jesus wasn’t white like Daddy says he is. I asked my father ‘Why is Jesus a [n-word]?’ He couldn’t answer. I’d been taught that God and Jesus hate [n-word]. That God cursed them by turning their skin black. That they were ‘mud people.'”

You bet. I'll be in handheld most of the time. Slight chance I'll be in the diversity lounge helping out, but I doubt it.

also yeah, the Mediterranean/arabic peoples typically had bronze skin. i think the greeks had curly hair, but idk if it was quite as curly as black hair can get. dunno about arabs. mebbe jesus was half black half greek or something. that whole region would have been the melting-pot of its time, being situated so close to lots of different cultures.
