Ah yes, the riots that started with trans folk in bars but instead resulted in gay and lesbian rights growing all over the country, with little to no advocacy for trans rights. As usual, both the lgbt and feminism continue to do nothing for trans rights. Thanks for picking the perfect example for me.
lol
because he's dense as fuck, that's why
Ultimately, TERF feminism is what's been setting legislation in this country for the last 40 years. Feminism has been one of the largest anti-trans activists in this country. Story time, bitches.
Once upon a time, a feminism by the name of Janice Raymond wrote a book called The Transexual Empire. It came out in 79 and wrote about how transwomen were just men so caught up in the patriarchy, that they are doing it just to invade and destroy women only spaces from within. She attacked specific transwomen in the movement, and after this there was a big falling out between feminists and transwomen. But this isn't really a big deal. The bigger deal is the fact that before this book, hormone therapy was covered by regular insurance. In fact it was much easier to legally change your gender. She actively fought to remove hrt from insurance and make it more difficult to legally change your gender.
Thanks feminism. (Plus you also have the slew of people saying women = vagina, and stuff like political lesbianism (which hurts the lgb movement more than anything else but that's a whole other discussion)).
Ok, that's nice and all, but here in 2015, TERFs are not setting legislature tones any longer. So stop contributing all feminists to whites/TERFs
Double post because saying feminism helps trans people is so extra ultra wrong.
I forgot to mention how to achieve trans and gay rights, you need to do one very important thing. Men have not had their gender roles expanded in the last 100 years. Feminism did a shit load for women. Not just for jobs, equality, etc, but for gender roles. Women are allowed to have short hair. Women can wear fucking pants and suits and what not. It was heavily frowned upon for women to leave their gender roles before feminism. Women had to dress a certain way or they got shit on (by everyone). But now they can. Awesome. But no such movement exists for men, and so any man who does something slightly different, they get shit on. There are parts of this country where even wearing pink, not even talking about womens clothing, will get your ass beaten. I dont even understand how anyone who is gay can consider them self a feminist.
Anyway going to sleep. Feel free to pick this apart for each tiny detail while ignoring I'm more or less right on every point.
Yeah because they did an extra special awesome job attempting to undo the damage that they did. 36 years not enough time? There is also things such as women only spaces (with the definition of women being vagina), and the "trans surprise" defense law. Meaning if someone "surprises" you that they are trans, you are legally protected if you kill them. And more but I am getting tired and its late.
Jesus fucking Christ. Look at this shit.

If you took like 5 minutes to educate yourself, you would identify as an Intersectional Feminist. But instead, you're insistent on attributing an entire movement to a 40-year-old definition of a word that you don't like. I assure you that Intersectional Feminists hate TERFs and are actively working against their interests. They are also the first ones to challenges ideas of gender norms that affect both women AND men. You simply haven't read anything from an Intersectional Feminist.
So this thread is now about the Good News of Intersectionality, but at least I had to type that out instead of posting an image of some Jehovah's Witnesses. Moderation achieved.
I have nothing really to contribute at this point, except to agree with Mazmaz. Fuck TERFs and their bullshit. They're extremely transphobic and they're already rallying against what is now being touted as Leelah's Law (to ban conversion therapies), not to mention the way they refuse to acknowledge the way that partriarchal values are just as harmful to men.
Feminism is changing, and many are rallying to dispel the image of the man-hating vagina-centric feminist. It has no place in modern activism.
