A bit late to the party as well, but, do i think hey is being overly sensitive about the title change thing? yes, but for good reason. when you get insulted by someone, you get a little annoyed, pissed off, or the like, but you let it slide. another person does it, and it builds up a little, but you still let it slide.
Now have countless people throughout your life doing the same thing, either intentionally or not, and yeah, you get overly sensitive to it, the same way a little weak acid dropped on your skin once tingles, then heals, while the same acid dropped on the same spot over and over again cuts to the bone every time a drop falls.
So i'm going to side with hey on this one, even though the whole topic is pretty much solved.![]()

if i shake a hand and nod to 1000 people and 1 happens to be trans i didnt show them any less respect is simply shook a hand/nod.
your points ridiculous you picked extremely dumb examples to prove a ridiculous point. explain an actual practical example of when treating people how you interact with in daily life the same is wroung because they are trans.
example:
I open doors for anyone if i see them coming : explain how this matters if the person is trans
Give me an actual counter argument otherwise you seem to want special treatment and thats the bullshit i was talking about.
Perhaps not getting stared at, not getting that weird side-glance, not having mothers pull their children away (lest they CATCH IT, OH GOD), not having people give that disgusted look, not having people do double-takes, not having people snickering with their friends?
Those are just a few things I can think of.
Aks, Gokku was asking how we should treat them differently rather than the same. Because hey was stating that the same was not... never mind, going to let this all go.
The examples she used I do. (hey's examples. Not Aks) Daily. I always call older people young kids or act like they are goin out partying on the weekends getting trashed. I even do it to young 10 yr olds with their parents there. Or I call female leadership sir or male leadership ma'am and mix and match etc etc or I "hun" or "hunny" "dewd" "brah" male and female peers. I have great comedic timing though and my tone isn't negative, mocking or shitty so none of em take any offense. Thank you tone and context for existing, without you, how would language work <3
but I guess using every moniker out there to refer to everyone is treating people different.
Gokku, i don't think you're arguing the same thing hey is arguing. its true that treating everyone exactly the same results in respecting everyone the same, because everyone is different. sometimes the same action applies to everyone as being respectful, regardless of who they are. sometimes different words or actions are required to convey an equivalent amount of respect. hey isn't arguing that treating people equivalently isn't respectful, only that treating people the same way is respectful, because not everyone is the same.
As another example, one common argument opponents of same-sex marriage use is that gay people are treated exactly the same, because they aren't banned from marrying someone of the opposite sex. look! they have the same exact rights as everyone else! but its not an equivalent right. that's what hey is arguing.
