Pulling all nighter so might as well drop my initial thoughts on the Pats v Ravens.

Patriots are going to destroy Baltimore. Much has been made of Flacco against Tom in the past, but the Patriots had a shit secondary in 2011 and 2012. Tom would have to take the long, hard road every possession, and Flacco could just throw up whatever for a completion against a secondary of bums off the street. Not this year. Now Flacco is gonna' have to work for his points.

The Ravens have zero people in their secondary capable of stopping Tom's targets. Lafell and Edelman are going to have great games, and Gronk is going to help neutralize their front by treating them like his personal bitch when not catching touchdown passes. Also see Vareen killing them catching a lot of passes out of the backfield for big yardage. I really see no answer for any of this on the Ravens defense.

Outside of Mayo and Ridley, this is the healthiest the Patriots have gone into the playoffs in years. Our defense and offense are pretty well intact. This is the Patriots best team and best shot at Lombardi #4 since 2007 and this shit Baltimore team, with no notable wins but the lolSteelers and lolPanthers, aren't going to deny them.

Ravens defense has always given Tom troubles, and that's affected his post season stats of late more than the post season itself, but that defense is gone and all that remains is their shitty uniforms.

Nate Solder better fucking show up next week. If he does, it won't even be close

I hate Seattle. I've lived in the area for most of my life, and while I love the weather, the scenery, the nature activities, and just how diverse it is in such a small area, I hate so many of the people, but none more than Seahawks fans. They are obnoxious, they are so fairweather I cannot fathom how they live in one of the gloomiest cities in the nation. The fact that they were division rivals with my team growing up just added fuel to that little fire. It's a city that doesn't deserve a championship, and I'm relatively convinced that Lovie Smith would have done a better job than John Fox.

By contrast, growing up I kind of liked the Steelers, and the Patriots. I kind of just picked a team in each other division to be my go-to when Denver was out, and Steel town always seemed to do right: the ownership was loyal, they didn't have a lot of turn-over in the front office, and they seemed to show more loyalty than most teams did to older players. The Patriots were kind of my default, because I've never been able to stand the Jets, the Marino/Kelley/Elway rivalries felt more real than anything in the division, so the Bills and the Dolphins were out, and the Colts... well, their owner betrayed a great fanbase. So, Pats it was. But the Steelers I actually liked.

That said, the only reason Rothlisburger won his rings was because of some of the worst officiating I have ever seen in the NFL post season. And it wasn't just one game. When they played the Seahawks, it was literally every playoff game, the officiating was ridiculously lopsided toward the Steelers. I am not a conspiracy theorist. I do not believe that the NFL intentionally tries to swing things toward or away one team. But man, that is the ONE post season I've seen where I can legitimately say I think some investigation needed to happen, because it was consistent. I'm going to point this out, because it needs pointing out: the quarterback of the Seahawks was called for unnecessary roughness while trying to tackle someone after an interception. The *QUARTERBACK* was called for UNNECESSARY ROUGHNESS. Against the Bengals, against the Colts, and against the Broncos, and finally against the Seahawks, a team I was rooting against with the gleeful abandon of a child, the officiating was so bad it made even attempts to overcome the officiating futile. It was horrible. With all of the "Did you know Jerome Bettis is from Detroit?" talk, it really, really felt the closest the NFL's ever been to MAKING someone win.

Against Arizona, the calling wasn't as egregious, and there were a couple of close calls that went the Cardinal's way, but on the whole, the officiating-- especially the non-calls on multiple PIs and illegal contacts-- was lopsided toward Pittsburgh. If the officiating is just /even/, the Steelers are 4-4 in the Super Bowl. It has nothing to do with Brady-- the Broncos knocked the Patriots out in 2005 (in part because of a blown call on a Champ INT that should have been a fumble but was ruled a TD for Denver). Don't expect Steeler fans to ever admit it. In my experience, they're the most whiney, hypocritical `bratty` fans in the entire league.

If I believed the NFL was rigged I would simply stop watching it. That said, there's certainly been some moments that give you pause. The Saints winning the Superbowl after Hurricane Katrina just seemed a little too convenient. To be fair, so did the 2001 Patriots after 9/11 too, but winning two more in 03' and 04' diminishes any conspiracy theories. That team was ascending and nobody knew at the time that TB was TFB.

Another moment, not to keep harping on Manning, was in the 2006 AFC Championship game, which a lot of Patriot fans still have not gotten over, and feel the league was trying to help Manning get his ring so he didn't go the way of Dan Marino. Ellis Hobbs was flagged for "face guarding" at, IIRC, a pretty critical moment in the game. Well, "face guarding" isn't even a penalty in the NFL, and the league apologized for it after the game when Peyton was on his way to the Superbowl and Tom got sent home to play golf.

Anyway, I agree, Ben's first ring was bogus and the Seahawks got hosed. I don't believe for a second he would of gotten his second if Tom's knee didn't get blasted in 2008 by Pollard.

I hate the Steelers. It's nice to hate a team that's always so high on itself that Brady almost always completely embarrasses.
