It's not a broad degree loan ban, it's individualized per school/degree. Unsurprisingly for-profit schools are the hardest hit (which is good) - and the benchmark is "are people with this degree from this school earning more than the average high school graduate 4 years later" which most programs easily clear, even in "low value" degrees (like, ahem, experimental filmmaking from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee)

I was much more concerned about this until I dug into the details.

I would be concerned about it anyway.

You shouldn't be able to dictate the terms of financial aid. From a business standpoint you could argue if there's little chance of ROI the risk isn't worth it.

But the government isn't a business, and education shouldn't cost money. The time and effort is the investment.

I do agree for profit schools shouldn't even have access to financial aid because that shit is predatory, however, people should have the right to pursue what studies they will. Plenty of folks I know and work with had degrees in "Film Studies" or "Women's History" and they're fantastic people in their field (or doctors in some cases).

I don't think we should quantify ROI based on earning potential; it should be based on what it offers society as a whole.

Allowing the government to dictate which disciplines can and cannot be financed seems like a pretty slippery slope to me. Also very small government of the party for small government.
