By saying "this is the feminism thread" you assert that male rape victims don't matter to feminists, which is false. TERFs and other radicals notwithstanding, rape victims of all genders matter. Feminism, again, seeks the equality of the sexes, and that means that men and women should have the same protections and the same capabilities to come forward as victims. So yes, male rape victims are relevant, and to suggest otherwise insinuates that you don't understand feminism.

I don't feel comfortable calling it an organized SJW raid or anything. I just think the folks inclined to complain feel they should be able to enact change in things they don't like, which completely misses the point of voting with your wallet. It's a strange situation to complain about violence portrayed against female superheroes when it's kind of implied it comes with the territory. Babs has a traumatic history with the Joker. Referencing that in variant art shouldn't be a problem. Depicting her as crying and a victim allegedly went against the depiction of Batgirl the writers were going for, but I don't read the book in question so I can't really weigh in on that.

I do dislike the fact that crying under a hashtag will force people to back down from their art, though. Should we retcon out Killing Joke to not offend people? Is it allowed to reference? It's New 52 Continuity and all, part of Babs' progression arc was coming to terms with the injury and overcoming the trauma therein.

I'm not even so sure about that. Sexism is a polarizing thing, and that's what I think makes it such a powerful point to levy against opponents. If you don't oppose sexism it must mean you're sexist, right? Everything on the internet is a battle, so if you don't find that cover "problematic" then you are part of the problem. And no one wants to have that argument with friends or people online, so you either agree or you fight back.

I don't want to rant here, but calling your perceived foe a sexist isn't anything new.

I don't see why that should matter. The variant cover is part of a series of variant covers across DC comics featuring the Joker. The covers are suppose to be related to the Joker not the current run of a series.

Ah, so not only do they want women to be portrayed as strong independent heroes, they have to be strong independent heroes who can never be in a position where the enemy has the upper hand. Because the strong male heroes have never ever been put in a bad situation by the bad guys, nope, none, not at all, never, the patriarchy would never allow this.
