I mean come on the guy didn't even say anything charged. Even if unisex labs are more or less effective.
For him as a seasoned scientist they are possibly his preference and its not sexist at all.
If he has been in the field long enough to fall in love and had others fall in love with him. Then the disruption of his work in his opinion is worse than the loss of gender balance from the lab.

Peoples opinions have to be politically correct to be acceptable anymore or else they need to leave their position. Even if he actually said something offensive such as he doesn't like women in the lab. Who cares what he likes?
There's a big difference between a cop being openly racist as an opinion and a guy saying women distract men and vice versa in the lab. As one matters to his ability to preform his job and the other really doesn't since it's as important as his dislike for rap music or Queen Latifah movies.

I really hate to agree with Anita, and I'd like to see the stuff she read, but it does make a lot of sense. Boys and girls mature at different rates, and respond differently (generally speaking) to certain methods, so it makes sense that having a more homogeneous environment would allow teachers to better cater to the majority of their classroom.

It has to do with boys' natural tendency to want to do shit. Move around. Take risk ( =call out, give answers even if they're unsure, more likely to participate). Play. Girls you can expect to have an easier time sitting still and listening for longer periods of time, planning, and waiting.

If you have the both of them together in the same classroom trying to lecture, the boys are likely to be disruptive because they don't want a part of that. We know those methods lead to a big disparity between education levels of boys vs girls, college attendance, etc. And if the boys are disruptive it takes the attention of the other kids away from the teacher - hurting how much they're learning in that period of time. Leads to a disparity between disciplinary action against boys vs girls.

There are also a lot of gender bias shit that inevitably starts to happen to teachers who don't go out of their way to prepare for it. Any teacher in america today can finish a lesson and if you were to ask "who'd you call on to answer your questions?" a vast majority of the students they called on to answer would be boys (because they call out or raise hands). Like, it isn't even close. That kind of bias caused by the different behaviors of the two sexes cause disparities in how easily a student's forgiven for calling out (boys easier forgiven), their praise for a good answers (boys answer more often = more wrong answers = more praise for good one), and.. there are more but I don't have them off the top of my head.

You can look up "education boys vs girls" for sourced material on the disparity stuff. Unisex proposals are trash imo, but if you look up "unisex classroom better" you'll get a lot of stuff on it too, sourcing the original studies.

Btw for completion's sake, and I know I asked myself this: if we did things more in favor of boys would the girls suffer, or are girls just better students, period, than boys? Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of places that do the new "hands-on-learning" (inquiry education) so there aren't a lot of studies (none, conclusive) on whether or not that creates the same issues for girls as the listen-to-me-motherfucker methods we've used since public education started like 400 years ago.

Anyone who's considering unisex education I'd ask to go back to 1st principals and ask themselves what the point of "learning" is. Because it sure as fk isn't to get the highest SAT scores. (This is all with regards to highschool boy vs girl btw, nobody does studies like this on grown men/women lol). Kids don't just learn in the classroom from the teacher. Kids learn from talking with and seeing other kids. Those 6-7 minutes in between classes, waiting in the lunch line, seeing someone make a fool of themselves, seeing the reaction people have when YOU make a fool of yourself, etc etc I can go on forever. But those periods of learning would be made very ineffective, and even detrimental when you eventually get into "the real world", without the other sex around

Here is education <college where it's 1 person of authority in (just about) 1 way communication (that's biased toward different genders at different times) between 20-30 children with no authority, and that relationship's goal is to educate the children. Professor's talking about a two-way communication between colleagues whose goal is to get work done
