I genuinely wonder if I'm just removed from it because of field, but fuck, I'm still in academia and did 4 years of college in Massachusetts which is one of the most liberal places in the country and I never ran into any of this. In fact racism, sexism, etc were all pretty ubiquitous. I acknowledge that it must happen because I see shit like the yale video and other stuff on the internet but fuck, most of my experiences in college center around FOB asian professors or old white dudes who don't give a shit. There is nothing more racist than someone who just came from China or India, let me fucking tell you, were times even I was like "did they just say that?!". For sex stuff, I remember when I was in sophomore year I was banging one of the other math majors temporarily and like the entire department knew, and a professor made a joke about me hammering some common sense into her cuz she fucked up the HW and the next 5 or so minutes of the class were of people making hammering jokes and this poor asian professor just not understanding any of it and it ending with him being like "oh no no is this sexual oh no no no oh no no no". Nobody cried rape or oppression or triggering. Nobody got fired.
There's even a radically ardent feminist in the grad program here at LSU and while she is incredibly outspoken on FB, will remove comments that disagree, blocked one of the first years cuz she thought he was being misogynist, etc. To my knowledge she's never made a single wave on campus / in person.
Basically, the sorta shit that one would be led to believe would be instant crucifixion for anyone involved. I've just never experienced it.
