The case is still going to court, it's not "over", but the injunction was granted - so a "suspend this possibly illegal activity until the courts have had time to rule" type of thing.

Apparently the test went into effect last year, 35% of the women failed it and only 2% of the men did. The optics are bad, so the PD needs to make a convincing case that it's necessary (which is difficult considering they had an apparently fully functional police department before the tests were implemented.)

I'm not against a gender-less standard of fitness for cops. Biological differences which may or may not be relevant aside, you need to do what you need to do - male or female.

The tests may be flawed or skewed or what have you, but I don't think separate tests is a better idea.

The Army has different standards, and the standards were different because women needed to look neat in appearance, and physically fit, but weren't Infantrymen. If you're going to be Infantrymen, the standard needs to be the same.

For the record, 52 pushups is closer to a womans requirement than it is a mans.

The APFT requirement to pass for a 41 y/o female is 20 pushups.

When I got back from Ranger School and was broke as fuck, couldn't do shit physically but walk really far with a lot of weight without food or sleep, I could still do 20 fucking pushups. You can do 20 pushups if you just tell yourself "hey self, don't be a fucking bitch and just knock out 20". It's really easy, you just do it and it happens. All of the APFT requirements are in the realm of man up, and you can do it though.

No reason to ever fail a PT test, if you fail you deserve to get shitcanned because you really are shit.

It should, I don't know if a lot of places run separate requirements but I know the Army does (as mentioned above) because females weren't infantry.

Pretty sure like 2 years ago a fire department lowered standards required for female firefighters as well. Which worries me as I would prefer to not be left inside my burning house because someone can't carry me.
