You don't understand what baby fever is or what that quote is saying. Infants have a smell that cause people to want to reproduce. That smell had nothing to do with wanting to be around children, especially other people's children (which is what a teacher would be doing). School aged kids don't have that smell. I just had to sniff my daughter's head insanely hard to get a faint whiff of it and she's only three. I don't distinctively do it to her anymore, but I still with my son.

I think anyone who's sniffed a baby understand exactly what this article is about, and knows it doesn't apply to kids.

Show me the science that baby fever creating pheromones can come from OTHER people's school aged kids AND that it affects a significant more women than men regarding other people's school aged kids and therefore men don't want to be around kids as much as women, otherwise your post is irrelevant. There are other pheromones that stay from parent to their own kid, but that's different and not what this conversion has been about.

My rant for today:

Reading The House on Mango Street to my students. Start talking to my rough class about the way women are treated (can't leave home, are beaten, told what to do, etc.), and a kid pipes up as a joke, "Well, sometimes a man has got to do what he's got to do." They all laugh and the guys agree. Of course the women in my class are silent. I tried to rip into them. One student mentioned, "Well miss, some may say that because they see their dad do it to their mom."

My response, "Yes, but you don't have to admit you are one, but how do you think that feels to a child?" (knowing that this happens to a lot). "Do you want to see your mother being hit? Why? Do you want to see your father hurting her?" I went further, "Do you think I should be hit and abused?" "Do you think the girls in this class should be hit?"

Some felt bad, but some wordsIwon'tsayaboutastudent continued to joke like how they needed to be corrected etc.. It was sad as fucking shit. They learned dick, and they will continue to do it. I begged at the end that if anyone (man or woman) ends up in an abusive relationship to get out. Equally, that if you are an abuser (man or woman), to knock that shit off and don't date anyone until you can get your anger in check.

I post this here, because this is the type of shit that feminists need to be focusing on. Not shit like legos, but this. Legos do not teach boys that they own girls. FUCK. This is what pisses me off. Some much time diverted to dumb pointless stuff, while there are whole communities that don't even know how to properly treat other human beings. These are the kids who get beaten into submission to the point their brains don't work well, and they don't get help because fuck somewhere there's a Target shirt talking about boobs, and that's important.


It again goes back to the strong criticism that the current feminist movement is a white middle class and above female movement.

Even on the internet I don't feel comfortable going into specifics about students, but considering this kid's past and present, I think it safe to say he will abuse any woman he is with if he doesn't go to jail first.

I honestly have zero idea how you change that except to constantly remind them how it makes no sense. They see it at home everyday, their friends see it at home everyday. In their world (community) this is the way things are.

Thankfully, our school have programs to do just that. And I am talking to the principal about what we can do because it was so many responding to it. It does terrify me though. How many will it fail? Those girls in my class should not have had to hear it. How many of them will suffer? It makes me sick to my stomach.

The program they go to involves dealing with gangs, and luckily do have a high rate keeping kids out of joining a gang. But I agree with you wholeheartedly. As I said, this is their whole world outside of school. They have no reason to listen to me.

I'd argue that it is a good thing that they heard it considering it's not a problem that will go away in a timely manner. The sooner their eyes are opened to potential avenues of abuse the better and sooner they can take steps to protect themselves ideally.
