Except it isn't, because none of those messages were including in promotion for the game. You could only know about them after you bought and played it.

It's not even circular logic. People bought the game and found the message, and some hated it. Some people bought the game and found the message and loved it. But nobody bought it initially because of any message. Success or failure have nothing to do with the plot details. They aren't even included in the demo, which is what got attention leading into the launch.

Feminism? Only if you stop reading halfway through. The Heroine character is 1) a psychopath who believes anime is real, and only pretends to be the heroine because she's a fangirl. Her female romantic partner is a reclusive dork shut-in incapable of communicating with other people, literally hangs out in a trash dump and is responsible for the entire plot because she fucked up and can't tell anyone, because she's a coward. The queer romance comes down to two ultra-macho dudes and one of them being unable to tell his bro how he feels about him until he succumbs to rippling muscle thirst and blurts it out.

The only thing of progressive value, at all, is that the game doesn't bat an eye at any of the romances and portrays them all as completely normal. The characters are not positive, they're all fucking crazy and horrible people.

And I LIKED the game. I just wish people would shut the fuck up about trying to co-opt it for an agenda.

So the game just kinda made a bunch of characters of various backgrounds and personalities, and didn't make a huge deal out of it. It was the internet that politicized the whole thing. I'm actually kinda interested in playing this game now.

The sad thing is this is how it should be. I applaud the game for having good diversity in characters without making a big deal out of it. Isn't that the goal to ultimately get to where someones sexual preference no matter what it is doesn't garner any special reaction or attention? Everyone is just doing their thing and not judged for it?

I would think a game that makes a big deal out of its characters sexual preferences or personalities is working against that cause. This game sounds like it accomplished something good with subtlety.

It's not about merit or who you are, it's about what you are. Otherwise the Progressive Stack wouldn't be worth a hill of beans.

Exactly. Going in blind you have zero idea any of these themes are in the game. It doesn't clap itself on the back for being progressive, nor does it advertise itself as something trying to challenge perceptions. It's just a game with quirky humor and an interesting story.

Yeah, I don't mind having some diversity in characters. I just hate it when it gets unrealistic. Like in Fallout 4 how you can romance every companion that allows it, regardless of whether you're male or female. The characters don't have any particular preference, and they keep talking to you every fucking time you're back in a settlement with them to give you the option. Like seriously Preston, fuck off, I'm not interested in your BBC. Or in the latest Dragon Age, where virtually every major character was one of the maligned minorities that SJWs want to desperately protect. They basically tried so hard to fit a character in every bucket that all the buckets (and characters) ended up really, really shallow. It's hard to get invested in shallow characters.

You should, it's like a perfect mix of Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door and Earthbound combined and the music is insanely good.
