Was just watching ESPN First Take and whats-his-face pretty much nailed it. Luck isn't winning any Championships until Tom Brady retires.

I really think the 1st year coronation to `future GOAT and 1st ballot HOFer` was unfair to the kid but these networks thrive on constantly inventing narratives since the old stuff I guess isn't as glamorous.

Packers lost because of shit ass playing calling not going for it on 4th and half a yard. I don't blame the kid that muffed the onside kick.

    Too many field goals etc.

Luck will not usurp Brady as GOAT; you can come find me in 15 years and yell at me if he does, but I doubt it.

And I don't want to hear anything about Unitas / Montana / etc.; they're not better. History nostalgia is like 80x worse in hockey where people claim that XXX on the Canadiens in 1928 was the best.

Pains me to say it, but Belichick is probably GOAT too.

I agree. I like Montana and have him #2 all time, but he played before the salary cap era at a time when the AFC wasn't even competitive (12 years straight with no Superbowls).
Most of the NFL talent was stacked in the NFC. Montana was also an elite game-manager, where as Tom is a fucking Terminator. He's played with a revolving door of receivers denying him stability on offense from year to year. He's brought JAG's to the Superbowl, God awful defenses to the Superbowl. He's won with RB's coming out of the backfield with dink and dunk offenses. He's won with the spread offense. He's won with the two TE formations. He's won with no huddle rushing attacks. The Patriots run all kinds of complex formations, using motion and all kinds of shit.

You can put Brady in charge of any offense and any style of offense, with all kinds of level of talent, from good to bad, and he still gets it done.

I really don't even know how people can deny him at this point.

Brady is GOAT, Belichick is GOAT, and together that's just a lethal combination.

And yes, history nostalgia makes people see past greats through rose colored glasses.

I agree. The guy fucked up but throwing an entire loss on one play, especially when it's just that, is really far fetched.

The great Aaron Rodgers didn't do a whole lot given how many of Green Bay's points came from 1st quarter gifts.

Just now hearing about deflate gate media loves to create stories so people give a shit about pre Superbowl hype.

I'll take the Ray Lewis deer spray story over this bullshit any day.

I just heard a guy on ESPN say these exact words: "It doesn't matter if they are guilty of this or not, because it's going to stay with the public because we're talking about it."
Translation: We're going to make New England guilty of this whether they are guilty of it or not.

To chime in here, Montana also didn't play in an era where if you breathe too hard on the QB, you get a 15 yard penalty, or if you play grab hands with receivers too hard, you get a PI call, so I mean.. it can go both ways.

If he wins this super bowl, I'd be willing to put him up there with Montanta as my own personal opinion of it, but if he loses, I'll just remember him as a guy who hadn't won a Super Bowl since 2004 with three other chances to do it.

It was sent to all teams because ALL teams were doing it. Jimmy Johnson, TWO TIME SUPERBOWL CHAMPION, defended the Patriots by publicly ADMITTING that he was doing the SAME thing during the Cowboys Superbowl wins, which was something he learned during his time at EVERY OTHER FOOTBALL TEAM he was a part of.

Do you say "The Cowboys Have a history?"

Belichick was fined heavily for blatantly thumbing his nose at the league by continuing to do it.

There is no "history" but the one you invented in your head after a barrage of media smearing.

    Your argument is invalid. Sorry.
i know people are tired of this and i don't want to get involved but this is such a poorly constructed argument im actually quite baffled

Neither did Brady. Remember that Tom Brady won 3 Superbowls before the NFL went soft.

The only rule `Brady is responsible for` is the one where a defender that's already on the ground cannot lunge again at the Quarterback's knees, which I think is fair unless you want to see future HOF'ers get their careers cut short.

If you want to blame someone for the fantasy-football rule changes, look no further than Peyton Manning and Bill Polian. Polian used his sway with the competition committee after the Patriots beat up Indy in 2003 to emphasize illegal contact. The Patriots then beat them again in 2004.

In 2009 the rule was added where you cannot hit a defenseless receiver.

So Tom was winning Lombardis when the NFL was still the NFL and he, nor anyone in his organization, was responsible for turning it into what it is now.

It's hard to make the argument that Joe Montana played in an era where the NFL was stacked and the AFC was trash when the pats essentially start the season with a home playoff game by playing in a division with the dolphins, bills, and jets.

If everyone is doing it then it isn't a competitive advantage.

Violations of league policy is not `cheating`

Why are the Patriots the only `cheaters` and Dallas doesn't have a "history" when their head coach admitted to doing the same and then some?

The only difference is media emphasis, period.
