Target says it plans to discontinue all operations in Canada and has been granted protection from creditors, less than two years after opening to much fanfare.

In a release early Thursday, the U.S. retail chain said it will close all its locations in Canada. There are 133 stores across the country with about 17,600 employees.

The company launched in Canada in March of 2013, not quite two years ago

"After a thorough review of our Canadian performance and careful consideration of the implications of all options, we were unable to find a realistic scenario that would get Target Canada to profitability until at least 2021," the U.S. parent company's CEO Brian Cornell said in a release Thursday, explaining the justification for the shutdown.

But it's not we don't like Target. I went there like 2-3 times, Items were pricier then other stores, most of the store had ALOT of empty spaces (not because they were selling)

I dunno, they closed one store chain and replaced it with another store chain that was basically the same thing.
It's not surprising to me that they're closing down.

I blame the fall of Future Shop.

With Target closing those stores, that's also going to cut 600 jobs here in MN. Just earlier this week it was revealed that Target rescinded about 40 corporate job offers on NYE thanks to a "strategy change."

Like Rata said, their stores were usually devoid of stock, all the time, and it wasnt due to sales, considering you could literally go to walmart and find that shit about 10% cheaper.

This is fucking weird. They just made a SUPER Target by our local mall and it's not even finished it. Whats going to happen to it? I'd be pissed if Walmart took it over.

And i personally enjoyed Target. Always had the things I need for nice prices.
