Target to close all 133 stores in Canada

Wouldn't be surprised. Walmarts don't close, but even here in the US, Targets and (really, cause they're shitty) KMarts do. We actually had a Walmart and a Target in the same megamall here. Target didn't last long after the Walmart ate most of their customer base, and now apparently they're trying to keep away from any place where Walmarts are in close proximity because it tanks store profits.

Target pulled that Starbux massive over-expansion and completely over-saturated the market with stores. They overestimated interest based on initial sales being high at singular stores across WIDE areas.

Canada ain't the U.S. You don't just plop down a chain at the end of every avenue and street and expect em all to roll in the dough. Other U.S. companies in Canada took note after initial failings, Target did not.

As someone who worked at at Target I can't even begin to convey to you all the lengths this company is mismanaged at most levels of it's operation lol. No surprise the Canada plan didn't pan out. Truly wonder how they manage to do so well still guess it goes to show how powerful their brand is.

Probably slightly off topic, but in all honestly, as someone who has worked in retail, I'm sure the IT department was like dude, this shit isn't secure, please let us upgrade this stuff so our shit doesn't get hacked and a 80 year old guy smoking a corn cob pipe in his leather recliner told them it was too much money and gave them a stick of gum and a paper clip to fix it.

I blame the fall of Future Shop.

With Target closing those stores, that's also going to cut 600 jobs here in MN. Just earlier this week it was revealed that Target rescinded about 40 corporate job offers on NYE thanks to a "strategy change."

Target's seeing very large stock gains from this actually, since they can now focus all that revenue on building their already excellent product in the states.

There's a super target next door to a walmart here (literally next door, shares the same parking lot) and it outsells the walmart in most areas. It's the regional training center for most upper management because it does so well.
