Both are pumping out valuable guides needed in a game where the community is too impatient and has no time for anything.
Outside of Mr. Happy's wanna-be eSports-like ego, I can't hate on the man for putting out videos at all. He does attempt to better the community by providing videos of any sort, even if it's bloated with randomness -- this is more than what can be said of anyone here, including myself.

Community definitely has an impatience problem, much like what you mentioned. It's just the blatant complaints that get me sometimes (not talking about you or others here). If you're going to complain loudly about a guy posting up guides, do it better than him or STFU.

My point of umbrage wasn't complaining about reusing assets but being so ridiculously wrong about the reuse of which assets.

    is my point of contention
Yea I wasn't commenting on any of that, was just pointing those out.

But now the Giruveganus thing is driving me crazy because when I first did SVHM I could have sworn up and down that I recognized the model from somewhere (the name just lead me to assume XII).

Was it from XIII? I only ever played through the game once.

I never played XIII, but I don't think it's in 12, though there is a monster of a similar name. Giruveganus vs Giruveganaus. Totally diff mob tho.

I don't know how many original monster models ARR has, but I don't think it's a lot.

Offhand, my totally uneducated guess would be:

    - 50% 1.0
    - 40% XI
    - 8% XII
    - 2% unique (mostly raid bosses)

Yea that's why I initially assumed it was from 12.

I remember doing SVHM for the first time, seeing the mob, it's animations, etc, and recognizing them, but and after realizing it's not from where I thought it was it's just bothering the hell out of me.

If it is original to XIV and the name was enough to make me think I had recognized the mob from somewhere else then it's just a really trippy feeling in retrospect.

This is honestly what has me really excited.

Yoshida: Since we have some ambitious goals, there may be some content which doesn't work out so well, but we hope to create a new adventure that everyone can enjoy.

Yoshida: Of course, our priority will be developing game content to experience, so we have a goal to mix the types of content we've had through now with some truly unique things we have planned.

    Source
He's said things to the same effect over and over recently, but this interview in particular stood out to me and I don't remember seeing it shared here or on Reddit:

Yoshida: We want to introduce something that's never been done before

Yoshida: We definitely want to bring a different kind of excitement from what was offered with A Realm Reborn,

Yoshida: The launch of Heavensward is building that foundation. It's a launch pad for where we can start our evolution.

"With the 3.X patch series, we're trying to figure out how to bolster the community," he says. "We want to get them involved in something more public and open."

    Source
    Also, this:

What is your content plan after the release of Heavensward? Once it's released, will you still be publishing patches about once every three months?

Yoshida: I'm going to try to maintain that pace as much as possible. However, each major patch will be on an even larger scale than today, so it might increase a bit. We'll continue to consider how to optimize by dividing up content into different updates to make sure we're keeping the pace up. There are many elements we're working on with development such as Gold Saucer, battle content, crafting, gathering, PvP, and main scenario, so I'd like to continue updating each of those categories evenly. However, since we'll be adding two new instanced dungeons in each patch, for example, in addition to all the other content, I think it's going to take more man-hours on the whole.

I don't think Yoshida's showmanship is in question here, the guy knows how to work his base.

I honestly and earnestly look forward to being shut up. Because as an FF fan I want the best for the series.

There are a couple of models from XIII that got carried over/modified for XIV - specifically juggernauts and the pulsework knights/soldiers.

It was a reference to ARR over 1.0. In no way did I mention XI.

You mean to tell me the reworked stamina bar doesn't function like it did in 1.0? No fucking shit. The concept remains the same and it only affects classes that rely on TP. Funny how some of the suggestions people threw out in 1.0 was to remove either the TP bar or stamina bar along with only linking weaponskills to stamina.

OK at this point you're just proving that you either can't read or are just extremely stupid and I can't tell which it is but either way you're wrong.

How can you say it doesn't function like it does in 1.0 then say right afterwards that the concept is the same (when 1.0 had TP as well?!) They aren't the same concept if you can use both of them simultaneously. If you want to say similar you can, because you can find similarities but that's already been covered so how about you start reading the thread?

So are you protesting because I am ascribing to you a position that you do not actually hold? Because every other time you mention XI, it is always in the context of it being complete trash.

The more general objection I have is this persistent belief among XI-haters that XI and 1.0 are somehow reasonably equivalent. To wit:

The only thing slightly tolerable about that scenario was as a tank or healer. I don't want to talk about it more it's giving me hives, but it does kind of explain why you think XI had style and substance.
Retail 1.0 was certainly horrible (which is not to say that the entire game had nothing of value).
IMO, 1.17 was the version of 1.0 that best blended the positive, unique aspects of the battle system with quality of life fixes to the absolutely atrocious interface and general design, while maintaining the spirit of the original concept (widespread cross-classing).
1.23 greatly reduced cross-classing and simplified the game; most of the quality of life aspects of the game were at least tolerable by this point.
2.0 has excellent interface and quality of life, but has put cross-classing (and gear) on the narrowest of rails.

It's a shame that Yoshida had to/chose to get rid of the good parts of 1.0 because they weren't WoW-y enough. That being said, since XI had success as an EQ clone and 1.0 failed as a (horribly executed) original concept, it's hard to blame him for going the WoW clone route.

A WoW clone it may be, but it panders to the FF fans out there who indeed love all the nostalgia and who don't thirst for the super hardcore raid scenario. That and again, I think these days, if a game legit stays P2P for over a year, it deserves a ton of credit because my lord have some of the recent big MMOs flopped hard.

Not to say it means you shouldn't be able to complain about the game. There's tons to complain about when it comes to ARR, but.. I dunno, how many more unique mobs can you really come up with in a series that's been around for yeeears. Maybe that's a lazy excuse, but shit, I dunno.

I'm not protesting anything. I'm calling you wrong, because you were wrong in that instance. You assumed erroniously that I was referring to XI. I was not. Spin this however you want: you were wrong.

I don't use video guides myself as I prefer to learn by doing/experience but I fully agree with this.

It seems to be the cool thing to hate on a guy actively trying to help the community. Yet all the people who complain or groan at him are completely unwilling to put together something better themselves. Sure it leads to butting heads with some people in DF who only want to use his strat, which may be inferior, but it would be way worse if there was no guides out there for people to use.

You have stated multiple times that you think XI was a bad game; I'll be happy to provide links if you like.

The point you just made was that XIV is proven to be good by the outcome of it's sales/subscriptions, but this argument is never accepted by the XI haters (of which you are one) when applied to XI.

Has anyone actually outright said that XI was a failure? Or are you just reading into that from saying shit like XI and 1.0 had more style than substance or people saying they don't like the game/mechanics in it?

Because I don't think anyone is saying that XI is a failure apart from you but it would be foolish to think that early XI was even close to being good. It took years for that to happen (which I've mentioned before) and for the general pace of the game to not be a snorefest (which it still is depending on your outlook and preferences). If you don't think bad games can be successful then that's your thing, but that's basically all it is.

As for 1.0 I already mentioned that it had something of value (which is the entire point of...some of this) but the things it valued weren't enough to actually make people care about the game.
1.17 was fun but it was obvious how that couldn't be maintained in any meaningful way, most of your issues with the game currently is based on cross-class and you think that taking away one aspect of character development is somehow a gross oversimplification when really the difference in gameplay was not so simple and actually got more complex?

I don't get how some people view simplicity and complexity when their idea of complex gameplay isn't how the game controls but how many skills from other classes you can use? You realise the two aren't that comparable right? Character development is simpler now but the actual way we play the game has grown more complex and fast paced. As for getting rid of the good parts of 1.0, can we get a list of what is so good that it's necessary in ARR?

That has nothing to do with the comment you responded to. You incorrectly assumed that I was referring to XI there, which I was not. Now you're trying to cover up your blunder by dodging behind a "well you hate XI so I'm right by extension!" screen. Its silly. You were wrong. Admit it and move on. Even the great Spider-Dan makes mistakes when he lets his cheeks and ears get too hot with emotion while furiously typing his preemptive responses.

If you really want to go down this road (and I personally do not, so I won't respond to it again), ARR has trumped XI in terms of concurrent subs already. Every game has positives and negatives. XI has both. ARR has both. I don't think I need to continue.
