Students entering the University of California system in 2017 will have to be vaccinated against measles and other diseases under new immunization rules announced Friday.

The change, which had been in the works before the latest measles outbreak, has taken on new urgency after infections that originated at Disneyland in December spread to communities in half a dozen states and Mexico. Most who fell ill were not vaccinated.

So...could it at all be possible that the thousands of illegal children and adults that flooded our border from Mexico could have brought with them diseases...measles, etc and causing an outbreak??? Or a few moms that didn't vaccinate their children?? Seems odd and oh so clear why the blame is on those moms...but I'm leaning toward the illegals we know nothing about!! But just my opinion!!

I'm pretty conservative and value personal freedoms and don't think parents should be forced to have their kids immunized, but I have ZERO problem with this. Students don't have to attend this school, they have choices. It's like choosing to drive. You don't have to get a license, you only have to get a license if you choose to drive. If you choose to attend this school, you have to play by their rules.

Being required to have vaccinations to enter college isn't new though, I had to prove vaccination prior to entering USF or get vaccinated if I had no proof. Honestly I don't see why it wouldn't be that way, considering how many people live in such a small area. I think if you live in the dorms they make you get meningitis vaccines as well.

In Kansas you're required to get a meningococcal vaccine as well as other vaccines before you can attend.

I'm also pretty conservative, but I think not vaccinating your child is child abuse. It's worse, actually, because you are putting other people at danger as well.
