Context here: I said my daughter is cis gendered so I haven't done extremely thorough research about trans youth care. For what its worth with the state of how things are going I'm going to have some knowledge because at the end of the day what lawmakers do the trans youth care will likely generally effect me because across the US there's been 500 bills proposed that will affect trans people across the united states.

That aside, here's my question for you about this. What is your interpretation of what she's saying? Do you think puberty blockers should be denied to teenagers? Do you think there should be a standard of what needs to be met?

Because most often when you see parents deal with trans kids its been a long process of seeing the kid act in a way that doesn't conform to the typical gender roles. Talking and discussing things with said kid to figure out what exactly they want. Letting them live out their preferred gender role. And then when they come of age to receive puberty blockers.

And its not like you get these medications and that's it. More than likely they have blood tests every few months to make sure their levels are correct.

Pointing at Jazz Jennings and saying because what happened to them could happen to others and thats why we should deny them healthcare that will legitimately prevent lives is garbage ideology that'll only hurt more in the long term. Its like pointing at people who regret transitioning and then saying "Well, because one out of every so many people regret it we should make it harder to get" which is also garbage because its not like there's a major political party that wants to eradicate gender non conforming people.

Or preventing people from having knee replacement surgery because the of the significant regret rate (Which imo is higher than people who seek gender affirming surgery).

All I want is people to have health care they need and to have the information to be empowered to make the right choice. Something I agree w/ Marci Bowers but there's a fine line in 'We need to be cautious about shit' and 'Bigots are taking the shit I say and stretching the truth of it to promote bigotry' and the latter is the shit I hope people take more care to fucking realize and deal with because there's several people who have been absolutely caught with their pants down misrepresenting or down right lying to promote transphobic bigotry.

Hope the shit I wrote above was coherent enough because my typing skills have been eating shit for awhile and it sucks ngl.

Anyway the real reason I came here is to say the state of texas says I'm a girl.

So, Kentucky passed a sweeping anti-trans law known as SB150 which includes not discussing issues of gender identity and sexual orientation in school. Except they fucked up the language of the bill and now Kentucky's governor (a democrat) and the Education Department are issuing guidance to schools based on the language of the bill, which effectively will allow schools to continue to have these discussions in middle and high school if they choose. Kentucky GOP now angry that democrats have become textualists.

“We have a phrase — ‘the letter of the law’' — for a reason,” the governor said Thursday at his weekly news conference. “It's what's on paper that they pass. It's a statute that's put in the books. And we have to follow that, and not just what's in somebody's head or what they meant.”

Beshear added: “My bet is that there is more than just that one mistake in that bill.”

The bill was thrown together and passed in a few hours outside of committee and behind closed doors by just a few lawmakers. Safe to say it didn't undergo a comprehensive review.

there's definitely a legitimate discussion to be had regarding the placement of trans athletes in women's sports to ensure a fair playing field for cis women. competitive sports have been important to me from the time i could walk to this day, and were i a woman i would assuredly have conflicting feelings on seeing athletes with biologically derived advantages coming over and smashing records.

that said the only time most people want to engage with trans issues is to decry them in some way. there is no concern with trans suicide rates, trans homelessness, anti-trans violence, codified discriminatory legislation. it is annoying because there is a a legitimate point of contention a rational society needs to deal with, but the issue has also become a vehicle to channel prejudice in a socially acceptable manner for large segments of the population. not all, but many of the loudest voices are those who do not care about women's sports or women's rights in general in any other context.
