Eh. Supporting fringe candidates from within a party is one of the best ways to change a party. If there were almost anyone BUT Hillary running for the Dems, there's be a much stronger push to the left from the establishment candidate. Bernie is running at the right time, given his base's unrest, to get that message out. He's just against the worst possible opponent he could have been against. And while HE may not be electable, some of his ideas will percolate in the Democratic party and affect change there over time.

The possibility of Trump winning doesn't particularly frighten me, because it's easy to tell that most of this is an act and in reality he'd end up being much more to the left on a lot of issues than the rest of the Republican field. A lot of the stuff he talks about is stuff he just wouldn't have the power to do. I don't think he would be a good president but unless he started surrounding himself with a bunch of neocon advisers, I doubt he could do as much long-term damage as GWB did.

Carson, on the other hand, genuinely believes the nutty shit he says when he throws out lines about having his own intelligence telling him that China is in Syria, that we could somehow have a 15% flat tax (and get rid of the payroll tax!) and not have massive budget deficits. This is a guy who is utterly unequipped to deal with policy matters at frankly any level, let alone at the presidential level.

I still expect both of these guys to fade at the end of the day when the real opposition research starts hitting them hard. Then again, they might be able to hold on long enough to force a brokered convention because the field just doesn't winnow down fast enough for Rubio, Jeb, or Kasich to consolidate the rest of the GOP.

This is one of the most sensible things I have seen you post in this thread. I agree with this assessment. It doesn't hurt or waste your money to support Bernie even if he doesn't win because it shows the rest of the democratic party that the things he says are important to people and are worth taking a look at. This is how people can effect change in the system over a long period of time.

Missed the debates last night, but heard a clip of Bernie's great quip about being less of a socialist than Ike. Also seems like every time he mentions how sick he is with hearing about Hillary's email server, her polls go up another 2-3 points.

Hilldog also got away with the bold face lie about single-payer, pulling a page out of the GOP playbook. The audience ate everything up, but that was expected. Hillary is nearly indestructible at this point, even going out of her way to paint the picture that most of her donors are soccer moms lol Low-info voters will be running this show, as they do with the GOP.
