Of course, but the Republicans aren't afraid to bargain with the country's well-being especially when the "Do nothing and blame the Demorats for the problems we create" strategy has worked so well.
I know it would be a historic break for Obama not to get at least one of his nominees through before the election ends, even if the Senate rejects an otherwise acceptable candidate the first time around, but at this point I feel like the elephants can get away with murder by just saying "No we didn't."
Obama about to release a statement.
I can see Srinivasan getting the nod, but one way or another you better believe that if a Democrat is in office when the next Justice passes that Obama is going in.
They can do it, but they better realize the ramifications -- we know whoever Obama puts up won't be confirmed. This will only heighten the anger of voters who are already annoyed with the Hill being in perpetual gridlock, making outsiders like Sanders, Cruz, Sanders and even Clinton more appealing. With the Senate in literal contention McConnell locking down the vote puts even his own job as leader in trouble.
The reality is they would rather Obama not appoint anyone at all so they don't get into this quagmire. This or they would rather a very conservative appointment so they can seize upon the moment.
Sessions (R-AL) already talking about how the Republicans on the Judiciary Committee will not be approving any "Obama activist nominees" since it would be inappropriate to give him a 3rd nomination this late in his term.
The thing is that voters interpret obstructionism when it's blocking something they dislike as the good fight, and when its blocking stuff they want as gridlock.
The Trump and Cruz's anti-establishment right-wing voters will not be upset about the delay tactics if it means keeping out some evil liberal judicial activist that is going to push Obama's agenda.
Democrats should just keep nominating liberal judges and use it to make the point that the republicans are obstructionist.
See: Republican Tea Partyists.
There is literally a movement dedicated to this shit. While people like Ted Cruz rode right into the Senate.
This is going to be a fucking fight.
And to answer the last bit, there is a group of anti government very conservative people. Libertarians.
Loving how Rubio still matters after getting hamfisted in New Hampshire.
Republican debate is now starting fyi.
http://www.cbsnews.com/ has the livestream.
I like how they explain the timer limit like anyone in the history of debates ever follows such rules.
BTW Loretta Lynch's nomination was a historic 10x longer than any AG previously. A 10x delay on a SCOTUS nomination not out of the question.
This nigga talking about "healing." Please go away Carson.
"I would like the President for once to put the country first" Kaisch talkin' about Scalia.
Trump calling for the Senate to delay. Pretty sure Cruz and Rubio will be happy to oblige.
This is going to be a fun year. Or 11 months as the debate wants to remind us.
3 people talked so far. 2 dings so far. fuck the rules.
Also fuck conservatism. "The constitution is not a living breathing document"

Cruz got lit the fuck up
And Carson has absolutely nothing to talk about.
