What Kuro said. People really shouldn't be irresponsible because they want the feeling of having a choice or a say in the matter. If you don't want to vaccinate yourself or your kids fine, just don't expect the greater populace to want to be around you or your children. The public health good should always take precedence over an individual's (parent's) choice, hence the reason why schools require vaccinations in the first place.

The entire Ebola scare should have made it very clear that an viruses and diseases, curable, preventable, or not, is only one infected person away from causing an epidemic. And something like measles is exceptionally preventable as long as people are vaccinated, despite it being highly contagious and fatal in child cases. We really should be proactive as well on vaccinating, rather than reactive... how many kids must die to something preventable before people change their minds on vaccinations? All the same, we should also have better education on just why vaccinations are important in the first place.

The real question is in the absence of medical conditions what makes a person so special that they should not have to be vaccinated to protect society?

Its funny that you bring up the Ebola scare. I recall several news channels cheering on the nurse who refused to stay in quarantine, that the government was stepping over the line forcing her to stay away from the rest of society. Now we are having a complete 180.

Two completely different situations though. One involved severely limiting the freedom through potentially several weeks worth of quarantine in an outdoor tent with minimal amenities in the middle of winter of a person who was asymptomatic (and therefore not contagious) for a disease that cannot spread through the air. The other involves minimal discomfort to prevent becoming infected by a disease that is 90% contagious, can spread through the air, and has orders of magnitude more cases reported.

Maybe because Ebola isn't easily communicable.

Jeb entered the belly of the beast at CPAC today and doubled down on pathway to citizenship based immigration reform + common core, initially greeted with boos, earned wide cheers by the end of the q&a

    http://time.com/3726729/jeb-bush-conservatives-cpac/

“The simple fact is there is no plan to deport 11 million people... Those that want to come here to work to invest in their dreams in this country, to create opportunities for all of us, and that’s what we need to get to and so the plan includes a path to legal status."
Fiorina + Rubio were among the other standouts. Rand enjoyed his family's traditional libertarian support and is prolly gonna win the straw poll

big takeaways i think were Jeb showing the far right is probably gonna be able to stomach him + Fiorina is auditioning for the role of attack dog vice president who will help offset the gender-based component of Hillary's appeal.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz will announce his presidential bid on Monday during an address at Liberty University in Virginia, NBC News confirms.

Cruz, a conservative Republican famed for his staunch opposition to the president's signature health care law and his executive actions on immigration, will become the first GOP hopeful to formally announce a White House run.

A person with knowledge of the announcement tells NBC that the senator will announce the bid during a convocation ceremony at Liberty, a Christian university in Lynchburg, Virginia.

He's not going to do too well. The Republican establishment voters won't vote for him, and if he does make it to the nominee... well. It's going to be a fun presidential race again. At least Stewart will still be around for this one.

What issue? His parents are US citizens, therefore he is a natural born US citizen.

The weight of legal and historical authority indicates that the term "natural born" citizen would mean a person who is entitled to U.S. citizenship "by birth" or "at birth," either by being born "in" the United States and under its jurisdiction, even those born to alien parents; by being born abroad to U.S. citizen-parents; or by being born in other situations meeting legal requirements for U.S. citizenship "at birth." Such term, however, would not include a person who was not a U.S. citizen by birth or at birth, and who was thus born an "alien" required to go through the legal process of "naturalization" to become a U.S. citizen.

McCain had a nearly identical issue as he was born in Panama while his father was stationed there and it hardly prevented his presidential run. i despise Cruz and thankfully there is little possibility of his campaign gaining significant traction but there is no controversy. SCOTUS could conceivably hold a ruling to definitively reinterpret the natural born citizen clause, but, come on.

McCain is slightly different because it was on a military base which is technically US soil. That said it doesn't matter, Cruz's parents were US citizens when he was born so he's gtg

I take it people are missing the point? It was either a jab at the birthers, or mocking him for renouncing his Canadian citizenship because he's a stupid douche. Possibly both at once.

Cruz announced his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination in a 30-second video message in a tweet shortly after midnight Monday. Later in the day, he will appear at Virginia's Liberty University, the largest Christian university in the world, where he will make his in-person declaration.
