EDIT: These panels talk big about what conservatism actually is, but the party they represent will never change as long as they just go ahead with anything the GoP does like Mr. Astrada is going to do anyway. They say they're about personal freedoms, but the what is the GoP actually bringing to the table? At the state level we have laws that are totally unenforceable, and only passed as a conservative dick measuring event for their constituents and on the federal level we have a movement to embrace total government lock-down just so they can turn around and talk about how government doesn't work because of how easily they're fucking the whole process. It's been said dozens of times, but the current state of the GoP caused Trump to happen, not the other way around. In a massively myopic move, the GoP thought embracing every facet of conservatism that Goldwater warned against was going to work out in the long run because they thought they could reign the crazies in. After this election, they now need to make a very, very hard choice. Either embrace the GoP becoming an extreme right wing party that will end up shunning moderates, or be the party that cracks first and create a new, moderate conservative party that actually lives by the bullshit that they're using to paint the GoP house.

I'd assume a good reason for the sudden outburst is to try to take media airtime/page views away from Trump supporters being assaulted in the streets and the general appalling behavior of the recent "protests." Hillary's dump on Trump a few days ago started the fire, now they need to try to keep it burning.

It only happens to Trump because he's the GOP front runner and now the presumptive nominee. You don't need to waste that time and effort on someone who isn't your main opponent. If Ted Cruz had been in Trumps position, they would all be doing the same thing at his rallies and the same people dumping on Trump for reason X would be dumping on Ted for reason Y. It's a pretty easy game to figure out; you just need to have a broad enough perspective on American politicos and its 'news' coverage.

As for not seeing it at Democratic conventions, the reason is because the far right isn't in the professionally organized protesting business, nor currently as violent, as the far left is. Also, most of them just don't have time for that kind of shit.
