It is rather irritating to hear him rant about them like it's some national crisis.

You guys, the wants and needs of black and Hispanic people matter

Well, I mean, other than when they are voting for Hillary, in which case they are low-information and voting against their own interests.

Speaking of which, Hilldog rendered Bernie non-viable in the black-majority Virgin Islands yesterday, winning all 7 of the delegates at stake. The most lopsided victory of the race, 85-13.

She'll be about a dozen delegates from clinching after Puerto Rico votes today.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but isn't clinch the wrong word since technically speaking the super delegates could still flip?

Hmm, apparently VI doesn't do "non-viable", Bernie got a single delegate there.

    Technically speaking yes.

But it's clinching like how Obama clinched in 2008 as soon as enough South Dakota delegates went his way on the final day there.

Hopefully Bernie concedes Tuesday night when he's down 350+.

Bernie will never concede because the goalposts for what could be considered a decisive defeat will change whenever the hell he feels like it.

it still blows my mind that bernie and bernieCo's most fervent supporters think that turning supers is worth holding out for. I mean the impracticality of it at this point is one thing, but you've been shitting on the role of supers for an entire election, and now using them to so blatantly overrule the will of the party is cool?

Kasich still had people voting for him even though he was mathematically eliminated from having any chance at being the Republican Nominee.

Hillary '08 didn't drop out until the Convention and she went into it remembering how she used to have a lead on super delegates.

Does this really surprise you? Just wait until the Bern or Busters hop on the Hillary train just like the PUMAS hopped on the Obama train.

My sentiment on the supers has always been that they are undemocratic, and really should not be a thing. Or, at least, not nearly in the numbers as the Democrats have. In my view, Bernie supporters using them to try and win the nomination is just playing by the rules as they are set. I naturally, still, greatly prefer Bernie so if swaying superdelegates works then I don't have an issue as it technically was following the rules. Not the most graceful way to win, but whatever.

But it's wishful thinking. Superdelegates are, by their very definition and design, establishment people so the majority of them will support HIllary regardless. The only way that it might ever work is if Hillary somehow tanks in approval before August and Trump's victory is assured without switching to Bernie.

painting supers as undemocratic for months only to turn around and use them as a means to overruling the decision of the voters is about as antithetical to his platform as possible

I'm not saying he shouldn't do it. He wants to win, and should be doing so at all legitimate costs. It just means he's not at all who he's running as, and deserves the nomination even less than the party has decided he does

Hillary dropped out and endorsed Obama on June 7th, a few days after Obama announced 60ish superdelegate endorsements that put him over 50%+1 and several months before their late-August convention.

Yeah, weird revisionist history there. Hilldog '08 dropped out and endorsed Obama 4 days after the last primaries.

(remember that it was a WAY closer race)

I had NPR on during the drive home from lunch today and I heard some clip of Bernie saying that Hillary was "mathematically eliminated from winning the nomination outright without super delegates" as justification for him staying in the race.

He didn't seem bothered by the fact that the 2382 needed to cinch the nomination is a simple majority that includes super delegates, and removing them from the picture entirely would only mean that Hillary would require 2026 (she has 1776) instead of 2382. Which is, you know, less than a third of the remaining normal delegates.

Bernie could get twice as many votes as Hillary from today onwards and still lose - not because of super delegates or because democracy is being subverted, but because that's just how fucking far behind he is right now.
