I'm really enjoying the "How much money would it take to get Trump to drop out" conversation that has been making the rounds lately.

Trump's campaign has only 1.2 million in cash on hand. He's broke, and seemingly has little interest in courting the GOP donor class. With polling averages having him down 6 and falling, I don't know that anyone wants to waste money on him. This could be a spectacularly one-sided affair.

Don't see how this reflects badly on him tbh.

Libs doing no favors for their party by making fun of Trump's alleged poorness. Throw in plenty of "bad taste" comments that include poor countries/cultures and you can pretty much sum up this election's tone deafness from the beginning by the Democrats.

I get what you're saying - that having a ton of donations (mainly from really rich people) shouldn't be seen as a great thing.

That being said his lack of campaign organization (staffers need to be paid) could easily turn a narrow win (if things shift dramatically) into a narrow loss, or a bad loss into a landslide. Part of being a competent politician is fundraising, for better or for worse, and this is just another sign that Trump isn't one.

tl;dr seeing Trump go down in flames is exciting, and his campaign being broke is an excellent helper for that goal. If you can't get excited for an egomaniacal blowhard who loves to boast about his wealth to get roasted because he's poor, I wonder what gets you out of bed in the morning.

IIRC people outspent Trump at every stage of the primary too. I wouldn't necessarily count him out.

Fwiw, Trump's campaign strategy (if we can call it that) has been astoundingly unconventional in part due to his connections in the business world. Most of the rallies he's holding, which have been his primary method of mustering support, are generally taking place in venues owned by his assorted contacts, and he's likely getting them at a discount/free. We saw the same principle in the primaries with how little he spent in comparison to the other candidates.

All that said, he has apparently opened up donations, and says he will match every donation made up to the first $2 million

His media attention has gone from "look at how great his poll numbers are! look at how entertaining he is! look at his rejection of "politics as usual!" to "look at how bad his polling is! look at how poor his campaign is! look at the important people in his party abandoning him!"

I simply don't see much positive coverage anywhere, and he's fully saturated the "he says what's on his mind" voting bloc already.

big difference between having some money to run the primaries and being almost completely broke for the grand finals of it all.

and it's not just being completely broke. if you check out a lot of the current evaluations of his campaign, it's light years behind where other campaigns were (are) at this point in time, e.g. romney 2012 and clinton now.

The media has nothing to say about Hillary since any press is bad press for her of late, so they gotta fill the airwaves with something related to the presidential race and Trump has been happy to oblige.
