He is indeed on the shortlist but I wouldn't read too deeply into him not being on the speaker list. If he gets the nod they will plug him on somewhere

Hill's shortlist all have slots on Monday so someone will get moved when they finally announce it.

Donald J. Trump’s campaign has signaled strongly to Republicans in Washington that he will pick Mike Pence, the governor of Indiana, as his running mate, though Republicans caution the party’s mercurial presidential candidate may still backtrack on his apparent choice.

Mr. Trump’s advisers have told national Republican officials that they are preparing to make an announcement with Mr. Pence, according to three people with knowledge of the conversations, who were not authorized to discuss them publicly. His campaign has said that it will unveil a running mate for Mr. Trump in New York on Friday.

BBC mentioned that the GoP is hoping that Pence will help him out in the Midwest where Trump is struggling right now.

Well, he's tied in a number of polls in Ohio, not sure what other Midwestern state he's looking to pick up - Iowa I guess?

I get the point of the Pence pick (if true), since Trump is in this awkward situation of needing to wrangle support of large portions of his own party, and in theory Pence could bring those people into the fold.

Also, an ABCNews poll came out today, and Hillary scored lower then Trump in favorability (30% favorable for both, 56%/54% unfavorable for Hillary/Trump respectively)

Polls released this week need some serious context. RNC is coming up. FBI investigation just wrapped up. Polls are going to be in complete flux til probably mid august.

I think it's mostly younguns doing the idiocy... But there was a thread where people were basically saying he only raised money to get young people to vote for Hillary and that his intention wasn't to win because why else would he endorse her?
