The Republicans wish they had this scandal lol. Then maybe they'd have a ticket that wasn't the least favorable in history. Any generic establishment candidate would likely be leading in the polls. I think someone like Mitch Daniels, or hell, even Romney would probably be crushing Clinton.

Have to agree here. Only in this on going reality do we have Trump doing so bad despite Clinton's problems, simply because he wishes to push spectacle and controversy at every turn. And even still they are almost even at the polls, lol.

Reince Preibus was in the same room when an RNC official openly called for ousting Trump. I'm searching /r/pol for the one thousand threads urging Holland and Preibus to resign. Honestly through, I fucking think Clinton is an absolute disgrace. I with we would have actually had a fucking DNC primary with just 1/2 of the amount of people that ran under then RNC. We might actually have a 1/2 decent fucking candidate. But on the flip, we're lucky this is Trump vs Clinton. Otherwise we'd 100% have a republican in the office for at least the next 4 years. So those of you all over Hilary's nuts, be thankful.

Personally, I never expected the primary process to be a purely democratic one to begin with, so that helps. And that's not cynicism either. We've had this conversation a dozen times already in this thread, but the cliffs notes version is that parties and primaries aren't public processes. They're private processes which allow for public input at their own discretion.

That's only true for the DNC with it's superdelegates. RNC choose by the people(as we've stated they probably wish they had superdelegates). Which then you could extend to the electoral college.

It's a matter of critical mass. The US Constitution has made it so that it is only possible to have a maximum of 2 remotely competitive candidates for President. Period. Changing this to any significant degree requires a pretty big rewrite of the Constitution and isn't likely to happen in our lifetime.

Parties are a natural consequence of this situation as they allow various groups to come together and decide on who those two candidates should be. While there's nothing preventing 51% of Americans from voting for Jill Stein or even an Independent Sanders, the reality is that any less than 51% of Americans is a complete waste.

Parties only remain functional so long as they continue to accomplish things. The DNC's goal is to move the Democratic platform forward. Doing that requires getting Democrats elected. Sometimes that means running the kind of Democrat that appeals most to a particular local base. Sometimes it means giving up on lost cause seats so that they can divert funds to closer races. As long as they continue to make progress to that end, people left of center will continue to support Democrats. As long as any significant number of people still support Democrats, third parties and write-ins are a waste. That's not the party's fault. That's the fault of the Constitution of the United States of America.

edit: "anyone" can run btw, parties just give funding, staff, and brand recognition and are 100% not a codified part of the US government or electoral process.
