I can't actually remember the last single term president we had. I mean, I know it was Bush1, but I was more pre-occupied with GI Joe and Kindergarden to care about the actual happenings of the world when he was in office.

I think what we've since discovered is that there isn't much a President can get done with just 4 years. Heck, I bet if you'da given good ol' Bush another 4 years he could have mission accomplished the war in the middle east a second time. But serious, much of Obamas first term was getting beat down by Republican every which way. Wasn't until his second term when he said fuck it and just tried to steamroll all his policies, no?

Yeah, it was a combination of him getting beaten down at every turn and also starting to play the political game of aligning himself for re-election.

I wish our elected officials could only serve multiple terms non-consecutively. I loathe how the subsequent re-election is often their focus rather than meaningful deliverables during the current term.

I'd say that the two term limit should still hold on that idea, lest we find ourselves in a situation like Russia where politicians take their required break before being ushered back into office.

re: Presidential terms... few Presidents really do much in the first four years simply because they are so worried about that re-election, and spend a year+ re-campaigning for the job that they just don't want to do anything that rocks the boat-- but anything important probably IS going to rock the boat (whether on the right or on the left).

The last President we had who ran on a one-term-only promise was probably one of our best, most under-rated Presidents. He focused on the job and just seemed free to do what he said he was going to do-- so basically, he was a 2nd term President in his first term.

... I really hate politics.
