Pete Carroll's picked up headcases before and made them work with his system (Mike Williams, WR comes to mind). I don't think he's opposed to taking a difficult player and giving him a shot. However, Harvin was effectively forcing the offense to design plays around him -- what they thought was an asset had become a liability. Throw in his shitty attitude and his huge salary cap hit, and trading him for pennies on the dollar became the best option. Obviously, in hindsight, they should have kept Tate and dropped Harvin but, at the time, it seemed like the right thing to do. Had Harvin been healthy in 2013, they might have realized their mistake sooner.

Regarding Suh, like others have mentioned, Suh's problems don't appear to be with his team, his problems are with everyone else. I don't think the Seahawks would be opposed to that, Carroll likes to let his players be who they are and really doesn't give a shit about penalties. However, I think salary cap related issues might keep Suh out of Seattle, even if they are interested. They would have to do some really creative accounting to get Wilson, Lynch, Wagner and Suh under contract for the next few years, and even that might paint them into a salary cap corner.

That being said, Schneider and Carroll have proven to be very good at what they do, they might very well be able to figure out a way to make it work.
